Simmons is generating so much messy drama that Kyrie must be beside himself with jealousy.

i think morey might have been on the right track here. like, simmons value wasnt going to decline much as he held out longer - so why not just sit tight and wait for the right offer?

it also sounds like simmons has cut out rich paul to an extent. or rich paul wants to appear to be more critical to "negotiations" than he actually is.

i’m not sure simmons’ value changes much in either direction at this point. i feel like in general we know the strengths and weaknesses of simmons game pretty well, highly doubt he is going to unleash a new jumper on opening night. it is really all about whether a team decides it wants to pay whatever price morey is asking before the pressure gets too much in philly and daryl blinks first. i doubt daryl is planning on blinking first so he’s rolling the dice on the team being good, doc keeping the locker room in check etc and other teams feeling like he is willing to ride the situation out until they come to his level. this also all assumes simmons plays and isn’t showing up as a technicality just to get paid

there is also a practical element to morey waiting to do the trade insofar as a number of guys across the league aren’t even eligible to be traded until mid december and aside from that most teams are reluctant to swing a trade of this magnitude in the period in between setting their rosters for the season and seeing those rosters play a certain number of games. harden had to essentially turn the sport into a farce to upend this dynamic but i don’t think simmons will be able to do that

I think there is a high probability Simmons pulls a muscle in the first 30 seconds of training camp (i.e. gets paid, no fines). I think that is what this is all about.

Not sure what the Sixers plan is but:

I think the Sixers can at least get an 6-8 seed without Simmons, so might as well let him sit a little if the offers aren't good. Good being good (like what was discussed just upthread), not like Lillard.

The fatal flaw in this is if Simmons actually plays. I've not defended the Sixers all that much in this, but I have defended the fans because they haven't (YET) done anything on the whole other than support Simmons and hope he develops into a superstar. But I've also said that Sixers management is dumb if they think the fan base (at this point) is going to welcome Simmons back:

the one thing you get from reading these hollinger previews (which i really enjoy) is how much he/his model value depth

i personally don’t think you can have a passable defense with zion on your team as of now, and they’re reliant to some degree on guys like alexander walker, trey murphy etc who i have no idea whether or not they’re good. but zion, ingram, jonas, graham should be a ready made play in game contender at worst barring some disaster, tho since it’s the pelicans disaster may come into play

This is the second pretty serious injury for Zion Williamson in 2 nba seasons, and they essentially covered up both of them
