giddey in particular feels like a bizarre fit for them i don’t get that at all, they need athletic shooters not a crafty ball dominant point forward. if you could guarantee me that they get the equivalent of mikal bridges with this pick i’d be on board with what they’re doing here

i guess the argument from memphis’ side would be that the gap between jonas and adams isn’t enormous, they have no cap issues given how young their team is, so why not eat adams and bledsoe’s contracts for 2 years in order to move up in the first and second rounds and get an extra lakers first. the logic isn’t unsound i just think you have to assume the player you pick at 10 is gonna be worse than you think but i guess most GMs don’t think that way

on the other side it's pretty hard to find a silver lining in giving up a bunch of draft position to undo the mistakes you did a year ago but i guess it's not the most painful way to get off of two bad contracts i've ever seen.

no reason to think he wont be in a league where lebron, luka, and ben simmons are all lead ballhandlers.

he feels like a middleton or tatum type player where you’d want to have a nominal PG in the line up but on important possessions he’s gonna have the ball in his hands a lot

I think I just hate the phrase “lead ball handler”. But yeah, I feel more comfortable projecting him as a big wing who can shoot and make some sick plays than as a full time playmaker that you don’t need a nominal point to pair with. It’ll be interesting to see how he fits or doesn’t fit with Killian.

i think cunningham, green, mobley is pretty much a done deal for the top 3, after that its probably suggs and barnes in some order. then theres a group of bouknight, kuminga, giddey, moody, sengun, and wagner that are probably locks for lottery picks. then a bunch of guys who are either high risk/reward guys (jalen johnson, keon johnson, kai jones, ziaire williams) or at minimum high level role players (garuba, kispert) or old rookies who should play right away (duarte, davion mitchell). and trades, shitloads of trades.

im high on kai jones for the spurs, just an irrational love for a super athletic big who has realized and unrealized three-point potential and is still learning how to play

i think scottie barnes' hype is questionable, like he'll be a good defender but if he never learns to shoot ppl are gonna look at him like michael kidd-gilchrist or something

kuminga will be really interesting bc he was considered the #5 guy in this draft for a while and now could fall to like 8 (or maybe lower?) guy sacrificed a lot to get here and he's barely old enough to be here. seems like a reasonable risk to take him if you give him a couple of years to grow as a player.
