Yah man I really hope there’s no major damage. The way he walked and came back kinda reminded me of klay 2019 finals, which…

Bucks saying hyperextension but idk if that's just how these injuries are called at first

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:22 (four years ago)

God no

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:23 (four years ago)

as noted by the instreetclothes guy, "hyperextension" is a description of what happened but not of what was actually damaged.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:25 (four years ago)

you won’t know what’s going on until they mri him, but if he’s moving around okay that’s obviously positive. if it’s just a bruise that’s amazing

Clay, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:29 (four years ago)

how tf did Capela make that shot

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:34 (four years ago)

feel like every time I've seen something like that it's been at least a full season but who knows

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:36 (four years ago)

Bucks are having the kind of night where Clint Capela gets compared to Larry Bird

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:37 (four years ago)

He is literally the GOAT star

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:45 (four years ago)

they should declare this year’s playoffs a no contest and award a double trophy to next year’s winner

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:47 (four years ago)

no, health is a skill

class project pat (m bison), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:49 (four years ago)

not sure i’ve ever bought that one

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:52 (four years ago)

im being glib, i just think the show must go on

class project pat (m bison), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:53 (four years ago)

i don't think i ascribe these giannis and trae injuries to the season--they're high-minute, high-usage players and the playoffs have become incredibly intense.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:57 (four years ago)

honestly amazed that they aren't constantly landing on each others' enormous feet and fucking up their ankles

mookieproof, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 02:59 (four years ago)

At this point I hope the Hawks win the championship this year and everybody bitches about how it doesn’t really count and then the Hawks win the the next 8 titles. That would be ideal

Heez, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 03:00 (four years ago)

asterisks are a fake idea, you play it out according to the rules and what happens happens

ciderpress, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 03:00 (four years ago)

trae is 33rd in total minutes played this season and is at 33.7pg, giannis 46th in total and at 33pg

micah, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 03:01 (four years ago)

finding a sustainable lower-risk play style is definitely a skill of some kind

micah, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 03:03 (four years ago)

Injuries happen just extra sucks it’s been so many guys that are the best or second best player on the team.

pure rim rest (Spottie), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 03:05 (four years ago)

the one silver lining to this was if the Bucks lost the series Bud would probably get fired, but now I think his job is probably safe

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 03:10 (four years ago)

man crazy going from "Trae's out, we'll probably clinch a Finals trip" to "they're playing terrible but it's just one game and they still have home court" to "we might be fucked until 2023" within the span of an hour is some kinda whiplash

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 03:13 (four years ago)

it sucks so much

symsymsym, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 04:02 (four years ago)

honestly amazed that they aren't constantly landing on each others' enormous feet and fucking up their ankles

― mookieproof, Tuesday, June 29, 2021 7:59 PM (two hours ago)

i think this on just about every contested jump shot, every rebound, etc. i didn't use to think this all the time, and i don't know if it's because i'm getting old and have turned my own ankle so many times i'm nervous/scared for them (not joking) or if the game has changed a bit, or both. i definitely feel like jump shooters are coming down closer to their opponents' feet - and more often - than they used to.

anyway ... sucks about Giannis.

alpine static, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 05:43 (four years ago)

i'm nervous/scared for them (not joking)

i know *exactly* what you mean. can't even really think about it, let alone see it

mookieproof, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 06:02 (four years ago)

alright time to watch the giannis injury i guess

lag∞n, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 15:15 (four years ago)

looked bad

lag∞n, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 15:18 (four years ago)

asterisks are a fake idea, you play it out according to the rules and what happens happens

This is all true but Jordan’s retirement ended up making the rockets titles second-tier in the minds of a lot of people

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 15:23 (four years ago)

sometimes the bad looking injuries are the ones that end up ok and the innocuous ones where a ligament imperceptibly tears like kawhi’s are the actual bad ones

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 15:26 (four years ago)

yeah the one thing keeping me hopeful is the feeling that I've seen these sort of gnarly knee injuries in football before and they're usually not as bad as they seem. also Giannis is kind of a freak of nature who is rarely hurt so maybe his body is just resilient. still I'm bracing for the worst right now

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 15:31 (four years ago)

its not too different to what embiid did a few weeks back if i recall. not gonna watch either again to verify.

pure rim rest (Spottie), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 15:32 (four years ago)

freak of nature

I mean it's right there in his name, time to cash in on the freakiness

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 15:33 (four years ago)

It looked like a classic hyperextension, sometimes that can get your ACL but usually not

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 15:34 (four years ago)

!!!!!!

There is no structural damage to Giannis Antetokounmpo's left knee after his awkward landing last night in Atlanta; ligaments are sound, sources tell @wojespn and I. Timetable to return is unclear.

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:24 (four years ago)

nice

lag∞n, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:27 (four years ago)

Yeah hyperextension. No idea why people saw that and thought ACL

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:27 (four years ago)

I think because his knee bent the wrong way

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:29 (four years ago)

Yeah that’s what a hyperextension is

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:32 (four years ago)

lol

Vin Jawn (PBKR), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:34 (four years ago)

wow thats awesome

pure rim rest (Spottie), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 20:54 (four years ago)

anyone know if this is like a 2019 Durant situation where he mightve dodged a bullet but has increased vulnerability for a bad tear if he now goes and plays on the knee?

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:01 (four years ago)

was thinking about that too. even if they make the Finals (which seems incredibly doubtful now) I would be very very nervous if he tried to come back

frogbs, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:15 (four years ago)

i respect your need to hedge any optimism frogbs but if giannis actually does come back i don't think it's incredibly doubtful! hard to gauge at this point what is really going on in that man's leg though

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:17 (four years ago)

there's a party going on in that leg

ciderpress, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:20 (four years ago)

well they’re saying the ligaments are ok which is different from what they said about kawhi where they acknowledged there was at least a partial tear

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:21 (four years ago)

he's not coming back

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:23 (four years ago)

he should come back

lag∞n, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:25 (four years ago)

alas the doctors of twitter agree with cad

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:26 (four years ago)

if the MRIs were clean idk why he couldn’t come back at some point for the finals

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:38 (four years ago)

alas the doctors of twitter agree with cad

The doctors of Twitter saw an obvious knee hyperextension and thought it was an ACL tear

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:47 (four years ago)
