haven’t listened to the lowe pod yet but my impression is that it was the tension with luka that got carlisle to leave, the haralabob thing seems related and not great but not in a direct way maybe

the atheltic:
After 16 years as the head of the Dallas Mavericks’ front office, from Dirk Nowitzki’s one-of-a-kind run to the Luka Doncic era that has shown so much similar promise, Nelson had begun to wonder if he was truly in charge of the team’s roster or coaching staff anymore. But when he relayed these fears to owner Mark Cuban, sharing his growing belief that Haralabos Voulgaris, the former professional gambler who served as the team’s director of quantitative research and development, was encroaching on his influence over personnel moves and strategy, the course correction that he’d never hoped for arrived.
Nelson had wanted Voulgaris to stay in his proverbial lane, to avoid overstepping the bounds of his role and focus on being a trusted adviser to Cuban whose analytics-based views would always be taken into account. Dallas would have preferred to project stability ahead of a crucial summer in which Doncic was eligible for a supermax contract extension he indicated a desire to sign. Instead, within the front office, there was turmoil and dysfunction.
...
As one rival team executive shared Wednesday, there were times when talking to the Mavericks about trade possibilities meant inevitable confusion. Nelson would paint one picture, so to speak, discussing the possible pieces and players involved in an attempt to get a deal done. But Voulgaris, who this rival executive said had talked to his team simultaneously about a particular deal, would tell a different story. And because Voulgaris was widely known to have a direct line to Cuban, this dynamic was seen by Nelson as damaging to his credibility. When asked over the phone about this assertion on Wednesday, Cuban refuted the idea that Voulgaris had negatively impacted the process.

The Celtics are trading Kemba Walker, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft and a 2025 second-round draft pick to Oklahoma City for Al Horford, Moses Brown and a 2023 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) June 18, 2021

― lag∞n, Friday, 18 June 2021 13:16 (five years ago)
no doubt okc will rehab kemba and get more picks back for him in a year
― lag∞n, Friday, 18 June 2021 13:17 (five years ago)
celtics have 4 centers
Weird trade. Is that just to trade the Kemba contract for the shorter Horford contract?
― Vin Jawn (PBKR), Friday, 18 June 2021 13:18 (five years ago)
might just be mostly honoring kembas trade request, also they love horf and yeah shorter contractalso moses brown lit the celtics up when they played late last year perhaps a danger of coach turned gm idk hes also that weird bball biomechanics twitter guys big success story lol

deep cap analytics
You can't have this be part of the calculation on what is a good contract for Fournier and if he returns now, but if they don't re-sign him I'll be annoyed because had they not traded for him, this trade would have created a new Kemba-sized TPE in a season where Beal may move.— Ryan Bernardoni AC⚡️AB (@dangercart) June 18, 2021

well they got it done, this was always what the shape of a kemba trade was going to look like. sucks to have to keep moving picks to turn over these bad veteran contracts.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 18 June 2021 14:16 (five years ago)
seems like presti gave brad a sweetheart deal to me. they only had to trade a mid first to get off kemba’s deal and they got back moses brown who the thunder signed to one of those crazy cheap borderline amoral lu dort style contracts
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 June 2021 15:41 (five years ago)
deal seems pretty fair to me tho yeah mo brown could swing it the celtics way, okc will prob rehab kemba and get more picks for him in six months lol

the celtics cleared $32m in cap space and all they had to do was give up a pick that is at best a coin flip to return even a solid rotation player. or looking at it the other way, the thunder are paying $32m for a coin flip’s chance at getting a solid rotation player. seems like a great deal for boston
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 June 2021 16:16 (five years ago)
thunder just dont care about the salary they prob even need to to reach the floor but they do love draft picks lol, its true that a mid first might be slightly below market for taking that on but i think its in the ballpark of normal
― lag∞n, Friday, 18 June 2021 16:20 (five years ago)
it’s not that dissimilar from the deal where OKC acquired horford, but in that one the sixers gave up a 2025 first. i’m surprised the thunder agreed to take back a pick that is locked into 18 & also still not sure why they had to give up moses brown for the privilege of taking on one of the more onerous contracts in the league
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 June 2021 16:29 (five years ago)
i guess part of their calculation is that kemba will opt out of the final year of his deal to get out of there if they can’t trade him but that assumes good health at minimum from him
― J0rdan S., Friday, 18 June 2021 16:31 (five years ago)
the pick is 16 fwiw, idk the deal seems pretty normal, maybe the thunder really like this years draft or just figured its the lowest the celtics are likely to be in the next few years, the contracts are the same length and comparable this year then next year if the celtics decide to cut horf his contract is about half as much as kemba, kinda doubt the thunder are banking on kemba opting out tho it may end up making sense for him
― lag∞n, Friday, 18 June 2021 16:37 (five years ago)
maybe the celtics dont even cut horf but having the flexibility is nice and it will be some sort of super expiring contract next year which is good for trades not quite sure how it factors into the celtics getting brad beal tho
― lag∞n, Friday, 18 June 2021 16:43 (five years ago)
moses brown apparently not valued highly by either team
Some things I'm hearing in the aftermath of the Kemba deal:-Cs feel better about their chances of re-signing Fournier now-This doesn't necessarily mean Tristan Thompson's time in Boston is over-Moses Brown was mostly added as a salary match but will get a look— Adam Himmelsbach (@AdamHimmelsbach) June 18, 2021
