lotta credit to monty for a great defensive scheme in this series

kuzma, schroeder, harrell, wes matthews, marc gasol have all basically been zeroes in this series, not a great look for rob pelinka. then again lebron’s teams typically tend to collapse when he isn’t playing like himself, it’s like the sun going out in the center of the solar system

xp yeah their peripheral moves last year were weird and worked, this year they were weird and didn't work. it will be hard to parse it out from the major injuries but they never demonstrated that they actually wanted harrell on the team and kuzma has been like actively regressing.

Dadgum playoffs

Lots of people on ILH seem to hate austin rivers but he was out of the league and made the most of this opportunity. Nuggets don’t make the second round without him.

ppl were very effusive of the schroeder move in particular which really flew in the face of my understanding of him as someone who cannot be trusted so now i feel better about my knowledge of the world

Let’s list things we were right about

austin rivers took a long time to justify his place in the league and benefited enormously from his dad throwing him a life preserver when he was washing out. it will be hard for him to ever live down that unearned privilege, but I suppose he's used that fact as motivation to finally become a nba caliber backup guard, which he is now.

that was extremely bizarre. and then on the second possession where he walked slowly up the court so he could yell at the ref the suns held the ball so long that he was forced back into defense, ended up on chris paul, called KCP onto him so he could switch onto crowder and then just stood there motionless at the elbow as crowder hit a 3 to end the game

shoutout to the suns once AD went out their starting line up just disemboweled the lakers. the lakers made their run in the third with cam payne, torrey craig and cam johnson heavily involved but once monty went back to cp3-booker-bridges-crowder-ayton the suns slammed the door pretty quickly

CP3 had great closer energy, had no time for hijinks
