He didn't specifically serve but he served in general

portland's defensive scheme, best described as "well they can't hit 'em all!", may be poorly conceived

they were pretty obviously a bubble fluke, their offense is basically each guy rolling dice to see if he's hot that night

not that it matters bcuz the games already happened but the heat were the best team in the east last year. the games that happened on a neutral court proved that... they kicked the bucks ass and were a better team than the celtics. there isn't a basketball argument to be made that those teams were better. the heat chose not to improve their team this year in order to preserve cap space for this summer (probably a bad idea) while the sixers, nets, and bucks all went out and got significantly better. it's been clear since like dec-jan that the heat didn't have the firepower to compete w/ those three teams -- were they better than a fatally flawed bucks team and a 4 man celtics team? yes. they had the best player in both of those series and they won both, that's usually how the playoffs go

i think stotts played it right going small. doubling jokic and making the other nuggets beat you feels like a better strategy to me than going to kanter. it also opened up the lane for dame who started shredding the nuggets the second nurkic sat, he just had to start shooting super long threes bcuz of the time and score. but he was getting whatever he wanted going to the basket

yes i agree they were the best team in the east in the bubble but were not that in a sustainable or repeatable way, both for the reasons you mention and the fact that dragic playing like an all star, butler having his jump shot working, and herro being a good basketball player was an unusual and lucky confluence of events.
