drummond might not be worth the max but hes def worth the min, especially for such a top heavy team
― lag∞n, Monday, 29 March 2021 14:31 (five years ago)
third one seems good
Some possible solutions to the buy out problem:1. Change structures so nearly everyone is trying to win every game2. If you take a buy out for less than full $ after contract guarantee date, ineligible for playoffs3. Lux tax hit is equal to higher of new or old contract https://t.co/N6ufn0kyAw— Ryan Bernardoni AC⚡️AB (@dangercart) March 29, 2021

__it happened bcuz his salary was $25 million (not wildly underrated) so no one wanted to or could trade for him and then after buy out he could choose to play for the defending champs based in LA_Celtics had a 30 million trade exception. Why didn’t they trade for him? Because they didn’t think he was that good._then they would’ve had to pay his massive salary when they were so close to the tax that they ended up salary dumping thiess in order to fit fournier who makes $10 million less than drummond. nobody wants to pay drummond a max salary (which is why he got traded to the cavs for a second round pick the first time around). i’m sure once he’s a FA next summer he’ll get a contract paying him $4 million like javale or any other decent back up center which is what he is now
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 29 March 2021 14:58 (five years ago)
We’re talking about the best rebounder in the NBA, on an expiring contract, and there were no takers. I’m saying this was a mistake.
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 29 March 2021 15:02 (five years ago)
be interesting to see what kind of contract he gets, full midlevel seems likely tho could def something higher like 13/2, see how he plays on the lakers

the pistons rebound rate this year dropped from 52.4% to......50% when drummond was off the court.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 29 March 2021 16:32 (five years ago)
That’s a huge huge difference in rebound rate
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 29 March 2021 17:34 (five years ago)
52.4% would be 4th in the league
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 29 March 2021 17:35 (five years ago)
it moves it from 4th to like middle of the pack. that’s great but rebounding as a whole is a devalued skill relative to other things.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 29 March 2021 17:39 (five years ago)
Are we arguing that there’s not a big difference between being 4th of 30 and 15th of 30
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 29 March 2021 18:07 (five years ago)
no it's about the value of rebounds.......?
― J0rdan S., Monday, 29 March 2021 18:40 (five years ago)
Being top 4 in one of the 4 core elements of the game is good
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 29 March 2021 19:18 (five years ago)
ok... now what if the 4 core elements of the game had differing values? we're almost there...
― J0rdan S., Monday, 29 March 2021 19:26 (five years ago)
what’s the value of being the worst shooter in the league at the rim have?
― call all destroyer, Monday, 29 March 2021 19:29 (five years ago)
He’s the worst shooter at the rim? Pretty sure that isn’t true
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 29 March 2021 19:42 (five years ago)
The key thing I’m trying to stress here is that moving a basketball team from 50% rebounding rate to 52.4% is actually a lot. It means you’re an awesome rebounder.
― Matt Armstrong, Monday, 29 March 2021 19:47 (five years ago)
he is indeed that with a baseline number of attemptshttps://www.nba.com/stats/players/shooting/?Season=2020-21&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&DistanceRange=By%20Zone&sort=Restricted%20Area%20FG%20PCT&dir=-1&CF=Restricted%20Area%20FGA*GE*200&PerMode=Totals&DateTo=03%2F22%2F2021

yeah but it's like stressing how you grew your collection of 1 dollar bills while everyone else is playing with 10s and 20s and hundreds
― J0rdan S., Monday, 29 March 2021 20:10 (five years ago)
1$ bills rain too though and some teams are really into that

I guess that sentence works with or without the comma
― DJI, Monday, 29 March 2021 23:34 (five years ago)
$1 bills are important too as they give you more money, just not as much money as the other kinds of bills
― J0rdan S., Monday, 29 March 2021 23:40 (five years ago)
rebounds are good but theres not any one nba skill where being elite makes you generally elite

This won’t end that badly for him but what a crazy decision. How much does he hate playing for the lakers?
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 00:36 (five years ago)
that number seems solid for both sides
― i was too much listening to your accent (Spottie), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 00:44 (five years ago)
that would slot him in the van vleet / rozier / brogdon / dragic range which seems about right

hes well worse than all those guys IMHO, not a fan, shouldve taken that money
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 00:51 (five years ago)
he's prone to untimely turnovers and he's not that great of a facilitator imo
― (•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 13:03 (five years ago)
his roll off the bench was great because he does come with energy and and a nice change of pace.

Michael Porter Jr is shooting 45% from 3 on 6 attempts per game. Must be fun to do that
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 16:55 (five years ago)
apparently jj redick went on his podcast and called the pelicans front office a bunch of liars. i guess i’ll have to track that down.

apparently they told him they were gonna trade him to a team in new york city to be near his family then they traded him to dallas
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 18:02 (five years ago)
i mean they should not have told him that if they werent going to follow through but also

yeah he admitted to being naive in thinking that a team would do him a favor like that. interestingly he also felt that with jrue getting traded and stan getting hired he was going to lose a bunch of playing time which was accurate.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 18:23 (five years ago)
thing I just learned about jj:His father's background as a stoneware potter led to his middle name, "Clay."love a literal dad

haha
― i was too much listening to your accent (Spottie), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 18:36 (five years ago)
dallas is a good spot for him tho
Yea don't know why he's whining; he cried about the Sixers FO "not valuing me" or some similar BS when he left Philly too. If being close to family was so ungodly important to him above all else then don't sign with a team on the other side of the country away from them or just retire lol. The "Woe is me, I have to play in DALLAS with LUKA DONCIC for ~3 months on my massive undeserved $12+ million contract" pity party not a good look.
― Sabre of Paradise (trevor phillips), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 18:41 (five years ago)
he specifically said he was excited about the fit in dallas.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 18:48 (five years ago)
i think his point was just that it’s not good to promise something you have no intention of delivering.
