trae young is at 27/4/9.5 and missed it...bad fg pct, but any other year a player who put that up would be in

i think the problem w trae is what if hes a lil weiner and also hes maybe the worst defender in the league

He’s actually improved a lot on D this year! Still not amazing bc yes he’s also a lil wiener

hes a genuinely awful defender obviously dealing with some major physical limitations but also the effort is very poor

which i mean he carries a big offensive load so maybe its just not worth it

he will prob get up to passable/nobody quite cares anymore like dame, steph, harden etc

his bigger issue is that his teammates don’t seem to love him based on things that have leaked out which you’d never say about steph and dame

seems like there is a widespread perception now that trae is the heir of harden's choppy/ugly/selfish/foul-drawing offensive game

the player backlash is understandable but i’m surprised by the fan stuff it seemed like kids especially fucked w him super hard (but maybe kids don’t vote for the ASG)

I totally get the trae hate from the players. There was a stretch during the Boston game last night where he scored off throwing an inbounds pass off a defenders back, bated jaylen into fouling him on a three while clocking him in the face and then drew a tech from smart who was barking at him from the bench. Not a lot of love there

he was trying to nutmeg everyone last season. cant remember which og finally checked him on that

the nutmeg stuff feels like baseball style “unwritten rules” posturing bcuz trae does it for legitimate reasons (turning his shortness into an advantage when centers are up high on the pick and roll). i was never with ppl shaming him for that. the foul baiting stuff is different to me bcuz it cheapens and uglies the game just from an aesthetic and enjoyability POV

those clips are illustrative of a really useful concept for the layman who wants to understand bad defense--how when presented with the decision to move to point A or point B, it is possible to choose the wrong point every single time.

bagley was pretty dominant in college but there basically hasn’t been a single thing that would indicate he’s going to be a positive NBA player. i don’t know what any optimism would even be rooted in at this point

feel like you’ll rarely see as striking a demonstration of NBA players being taught to fan out to the 3 on fast breaks now than that nuggets possession
