broken record thing but the general talent level of the west vs east squads is pretty frickin nuts

i dont feel like theres a big fanbase for lavine but i could be wrong he is generally the type of player who could have fans

I always feel weird about guys like lavine because they’re making the all star team largely because they are seemingly at the far high end of their shooting variance. But you can’t argue with those numbers.

TJ is lowkey dangerous as a scorer in certain areas

Facu is just such a pest on defense that I’m kind of dismissive of any stat that says he’s not decent overall

TJ has 6 blocks and 9 steals in his last 4 games kinda wild. I think the league changed how they assign blocks, if you strip low on the way up for a shot its counted as a block now i think.

naw they're ok, all have their limitations of course especially the defensive ones early in the season, but taken as a whole they obv make pretty good picks

yeah conley is the big outlier and there are some misconceptions about his value even from ppl who should know better. he's definitely having a very nice season and is a good player but a lot of his value in the all-in-one stats is driven by on-off defensive numbers, which should ALWAYS be looked at skeptically in small samples, especially if you play almost all your minutes with the best defensive player in the league

they literally match his minutes with gobert, it's so silly

xp but idk it's hard to look at that chart and think the big stats are really missing the mark in a systematic way. to me conceptually at least adjusted plus-minus numbers are exactly the kind of stat you want to be using to determine value, but you have to understand that they can be noisy in small samples and use your judgment when interpreting them

you like them because you like thinking about stats not because they are good at what theyre trying to do, which they clearly are not

anyone who understands basketball could put together a team that absolutely smokes the team put together by any catch all stat

the other thing I'd say is that while I don't mind facu in a vacuum it's painful to think about the net changes to the nuggs roster this offseason, like while he's a nice 9th piece or so watching grant and plumlee playing well sucks when guys like that are obviously exactly what we need

anyone who understands basketball could put together a team that absolutely smokes the team put together by any catch all stat

revolution is a process my friend

theyve only been working on this stuff for what 20 years

the adjusted on-off stuff is still pretty new and working out the kinks and so forth, anyway it's just a bit of fun let's be cool

theyre dumb im sorry they obfuscate where they should clarify

people who work on this stuff should work on more useful and interesting stats instead which is to say more granular stats

Grant is shooting 44/37 and yeah it’s great that he’s doing that on high volume but he’s not really a great defender and he can’t rebound. Like he’s the same guy

Going from grant to green to me is a wash, but Plumlee to Hartenstein has been really bad. Hartenstein is barely playable.

Jokic is top 8 in deflections btw. It’s him and 7 all-world defenders
