hes obvs just not comfortable in the pro game yet as far as the bad shooting goes clearly out of rhythm/not sure what hes supposed to do, feel like he must be shooting well in practice to be getting these minutes, wld make sense to get him more time in that case

hes athletic big strong and so forth and ive seen him do a couple drives that were more than just a pure shooter attacks closeout type of thing

i think i saw that maybe he needed some time to get comfortable with the "defensive concepts" and now he can be out there a little more which was good. the panic about saddiq bey or whoever getting minutes sooner than him was always dumb.

saddiq bey is v good tho, i like him

oh yeah, he's great, it's just impossible for anyone to know when guys picked in the teens and up are going to be ready to be in a rotation

has it really only been 2 seasons without horford it seems like forever

the team just has no defensive anchor now and is also somehow extremely shallow on everything else too

yeah the bench sucking smart being out having no horf kemba playing bad thompson not knowing about kicking offesive rebounds out or playing defense brad not knowing that rob is better than thompson everything feeling out of sync, its rough out there

im totally willing to write this season off tho what with the pandemic and weird schedule feel like the nba and the whole world is just burned the ef out

the jays + an actual starter quality defensive big is a great team, we are being deprived. now's the right time to find out how good rob williams is

at least put him second in the big rotation and at least if youre going to play two bigs make it him and theis two guys who can move their feet, theis and thompson just have no chance defensively, its has to be demoralizing to play in that lineup

couple caveats re rob playing time is brad did imply the other day that they were bringing him back slowly from last years injury and rob has said that sometimes it still bothers him so if theyre trying to avoid a long term problem there i support it, and tbh i have to give brad the benefit of the doubt re developing young players both jays have outperformed what people thought their ceiling even was when they were drafted, some of the other guys theyve drafted more recently idk jurys still out obvs not everyones going to stick, rob tho is looking very good this year, he makes plays!

some stretches w rob in is the only time of the brad era that imo the offense has looked really dominant, theyve had highish ratings but i feel like brad is such an optimizer despite being often very good his teams dont tend have that thing where youre like holy shit theyre punching the knicks in the neck, which is what i like to see tbh

i've given this a lot of thought and their main problem is they play too many guys who have between 0-1 offensive skills. bunch of non-nba players on the roster and borderline players getting asked to give important minutes. i'm ticked that some of the local sentiment has turned toward the Js being selfish! no one else can do anything!

their bench sucking is def far and away their biggest problem, and then having a bunch of injuries has compounded that by giving the bench more minutes

one semi ojelye type is an interesting spare part. three or four semi ojelye types is a major problem.

i think there is a sunk cost thing going on with thompson. cut your losses and bench the man for rob

yeah i think they need to see what rob can do with the starters. no upside for tristan. he can still play a few minutes a night and maybe more in certain matchups.

he's got six good fouls in him

rob williams makes plays thats just one of the facts of the world

rob should celebrate his plays more its like he doesnt even know hes making plays maybe its normal to him

he's been making weird plays off of good instincts since his first year. i do get some mild savant vibes from him.

there's going to be some foul trouble and some missed rotations and he can't play a ton of minutes but he's super talented and it's time to take him out on the highway and see what he can do

he gets an insane amount of steals for a bigman, hes averaging 1 in only 15mins a game, if you extrapolate that to starters minutes he would be... leading the nba! (and he would be second in blocks)

yeah overall he has a really good activity level and he usually channels his activity in positive ways. i think his passing could really help too, he's happy to move the ball and about once a game he'll make a wow pass

he can do stuff he makes plays hes not tristan thompson give the guy a shot

i have never figured out the difference between jay king and jared weiss, any guidance is appreciated

weiss is a lil bit more nerdy and king is more jocky i think, like weiss writes stories for the athletic that have play diagrams in them where king writes stories for the athletic that have quotes about playing harder in them, but yeah very similar guys

ok that helps, feel like i've seen a couple of nice pieces on celtics xs and os so those must have been weiss. robb i know because he's dabbled in radio and other stuff and i think he's a reasonably sharp observer of the team in general. happy he's now at masslive where i can read him.
