well if youre only worried abt that the fans will be back eventually

but whats happening this season is in line with larger trends

i do think they shd widen the court and move the line out, even just moving the corners to the normal distance might make a difference

my first post was an xp to aimless but yeah my concern is that every team is shooting too well and it’s coming from the middle and bottom of rotations. i don’t really wanna turn on a bucks game and see guys like dante divicenzo and brynn forbes making 50% of their threes

every passing year the nba meta moves further from what we mortals can achieve as basketball players. whether this bothers you of course varies

i’m def in favor of them changing the court to make three point shooting more of a specialized skill again but we’ll see if things normalize once fans return

NBA basketball isn’t an ungovernable naturally occurring force... the league can do things to make the product a bit better to watch on a night to night basis (playoff basketball doesn’t really have this problem)

i think the fans will make a difference but also players are prob just getting better at shooting too

my three point plan:
1. widen the court and move the line out
2. play fewer games a year (58?)
3. dial back the officiating just a little so the play is at say 2013 levels of physicality
bonus point. have fewer playoff teams, first round is best of 5 the top two teams in each conf get a bye and its finished in a week

moving the line out by two feet wont make it a specialised skill for more than a couple of seasons. if your problem is that nba players shoot too well its not going to go away. all rule changes can do is decrease volume

my rule change: if u pump fake and your defender jumps to block, you cant draw a foul unless they make contact when your feet are set (aka cant jump into contact)

also let ppl play a lil defense, as a treat

theyre already not supposed to call it when the shooter jumps into the defender but they dont do a great job

my bugaboo now is when defenders go over screens and the ball handler jumps up flailing and gets a 3 point foul via proximity, dragic does this all the time

they should have a new category of foul where you just get side out and it doesnt count against the bonus, just like fine heres the ball you happy

include rip throughs all sorts of stopping sort and jumping into defenders

Yah it was great when they changed the rip through foul. No reason they can’t do something similar on the 3 point jump into and the over the screen play.

Ref baiting is my least fav part of the game. I’m cool with a ton of threes if the game is sound drive n kick + crazy Steph n Harden sidesteps and backsteps. But once the playoffs start it all changes anyway cos teams actually try and take it away more.

There have been a few too many games this year where it’s like ok we clearly can’t match up with this team and we only have half our roster so the only shot we have is to run and hoist and pray for variance in our favor. Makes for some very ugly hoop for sure.

I think the league has considered awarding only 2 free throws for being fouled on a 3 point attempt which they absolutely should do, widening the court also a good idea imo

You should get to shoot the free shot for the full amount from where the foul occurred.

like a free kick in soccer, thats actually amazing. big dudes getting hacked down low would be able to basically get a freebie. im in favor.

honestly, it would restore some value to big men. if they can draw fouls up close, they'd be less of a FT liability

u cd still use the traditional FT line for off-ball fouls in the bonus, too.

I think making 3 point fouls only worth 2 points is actually essential to discouraging ref baiting on those shots, I forget where maybe it was the athletic that pointed out recently how insanely valuable it is to get fouled like that, like much higher expected points than a dunk attempt. it's just silly

yeah 3s and 2s have roughly the same expected value

how do you stop teams from full on tackling every opposing player taking a buzzer beating 3 to tie tho

yeah good pt, you could make the rule change not apply for the last minute or two, feel like that article brought that up too.

also teams can always foul before the shot if they want

fouling on the shot is much worse cause they still might make it

tbh they could just change the interpretation of what it means to be in the act of shooting... like you actually have to be shooting (or landing)

i think theyve already done a pretty good job of that
