wonder if hes gonna pick up that $39m option next year haha
― lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 03:49 (five years ago)
that offseason buzz about how blake looked good and could maybe be a piece for a contender not looking quite right

Steph is on a heater my friends
Steph Curry over his last eight games: 282 points, (35.3 per game) 96-for-169 from the field, 53-for-101 from beyond the arc.— Nick Friedell (@NickFriedell) February 12, 2021

the world needs a steph mvp season
― lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 15:07 (five years ago)
His numbers are on par with his unanimous mvp season they just need to win more games.
― a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 12 February 2021 15:26 (five years ago)
feel like if he keeps rolling and no one else does theyll prob win enough game for him to get it
― lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:13 (five years ago)
maybe but when there are multiple worthy options so much of the mvp race has to do with buzz and narratives, and Jokic and Embiid are winning big in that column right now
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:20 (five years ago)
kinda think its unlikely that embiid will continue to produce at current levels for the whole season, jokic on the other hand could even drop off some and still have a good case
― lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:23 (five years ago)
i'm hearing "the numbers" do not like jokic's defensive season at all.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:24 (five years ago)
eh defense shmeefense
― lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:24 (five years ago)
yeah Embiid's conditioning will get him in the end. remains to be seen whether mvp voters care about Joker's D
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:25 (five years ago)
you guys lebron is getting it if he plays a full season
― call all destroyer, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:25 (five years ago)
no sort of guaranteed imo
― lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:26 (five years ago)
if anything the voters will be happy to give it to someone who hasnt won before should the opportunity arise
― lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:27 (five years ago)
also looking upthread i'm sad about Blake. Hopefully his career can end with a dunkfest a la Kobe's last game to remind us how awesome it was to watch him back in the day. Although maybe that would just be sadder
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:31 (five years ago)
the lebron narrative has been strong but seems to be dipping a bit of late. he had a better case for it last year i think.
― a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Friday, 12 February 2021 16:36 (five years ago)
hes 13th in scoring, sorry lebron is canceled
― lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:37 (five years ago)
i think the fact that he didn't win last year and then they rolled everyone in the playoffs will cause a portion of the voting body to "correct" that. but his analytical case is really strong too.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:38 (five years ago)
if the lakers finish with the best record in the west and he continues this level of play i think he will win it... it will prob be deserved if the sixers finish first in the east i think embiid will have a shoti’m not see i steph having much of a chance unless the warriors get a top 4 seed which doesn’t seem possible

nash the last guy to win without being top 10 in scoring?
― Clay, Friday, 12 February 2021 16:51 (five years ago)
sounds right without searching re nash
Draymond Green has tallied 10+ AST in each of his last 5 games, all of which he started at center. The only other player to reach 10+ AST in 5 straight games in which they started at center is Nikola Jokic (since starters began being tracked in 1970-71). @EliasSports pic.twitter.com/RHjEAITHUR— NBA.com/Stats (@nbastats) February 12, 2021

whole league is on a heater
If you're wondering whether 3PT shooting is up this season or not, last year's league leader in 3PT% was the Jazz at 38.0%This year, the Clippers lead at 42.2% with NINE teams above 38%— BBALLBREAKDOWN (@bballbreakdown) February 13, 2021

yeah need to see those numbers compared to just the bubble
― lag∞n, Saturday, 13 February 2021 16:26 (five years ago)
The Utah Jazz lead the league in 3PT Frequency (48.3%) and are 2nd in 3PT accuracy (40.1%)— BBALLBREAKDOWN (@bballbreakdown) February 13, 2021
Wonder if that’s sustainable. They still don’t seem as good as their record.
― a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Saturday, 13 February 2021 19:08 (five years ago)
almost certainly not totally sustainable but they do just have good shooters on that team, like compared to last year bojan is healthy conely has regained form clarkson is getting big minutes and those guys are all shooters and then youve got mitchell and ingles who are shooters too, theyve got a nice shooting team and theyre clicking, and theyre a good defensive team so maybe theyre just good
― lag∞n, Saturday, 13 February 2021 20:15 (five years ago)
in general i feel like every game i watch this year the only deciding factor is which team can hit 20-45 from three, it’s kinda wack
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 13 February 2021 20:35 (five years ago)
yeah i saw some chart on twitter demonstrating that hot 3 shooting had been unusually decisive this year despite teams not taking more than last year
― lag∞n, Saturday, 13 February 2021 21:27 (five years ago)
Here are the players with the best 3P% on Catch and Shoot Threes:1. Malik Monk (58.3%)2. Seth Curry (56.8%)3. Joe Harris (54.1%)4. Jeremy Lamb (54.1%)5. Payton Pritchard (52.5%)Last year only 1 player (Rodney Hood) shot over 50% on catch and shoot threes.— Up and Under Analytics (@UnU_analytics) February 13, 2021

how many ppl really wanna watch this kinda basketball
Most teams still prefer to defend the basket area as their first priority, because layups and dunks are still the best shots. The difference between today and fifteen years ago is that shooters have become more efficient from beyond the three point line. iow, there are better players in the game now. Why would that bother anyone?
― Compromise isn't a principle, it's a method (Aimless), Saturday, 13 February 2021 21:52 (five years ago)
i like shooting and particularly the stuff guys do to get shots now a la steph doing dribble moves once reserved for drives is really cool but the variance is a problem on a game to game basis, along with taking so many rest/minor injury days makes it seem like no individual game really matters, which tbf they dont
― lag∞n, Saturday, 13 February 2021 22:03 (five years ago)
no i’m talking about what’s happening this season bcuz the arenas are empty
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 13 February 2021 22:05 (five years ago)
marginal players are shooting too well (as evidenced above) and it’s distorting the game
well if youre only worried abt that the fans will be back eventually
― lag∞n, Saturday, 13 February 2021 22:07 (five years ago)
but whats happening this season is in line with larger trends
i do think they shd widen the court and move the line out, even just moving the corners to the normal distance might make a difference
my first post was an xp to aimless but yeah my concern is that every team is shooting too well and it’s coming from the middle and bottom of rotations. i don’t really wanna turn on a bucks game and see guys like dante divicenzo and brynn forbes making 50% of their threes
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 13 February 2021 22:09 (five years ago)
every passing year the nba meta moves further from what we mortals can achieve as basketball players. whether this bothers you of course varies
― micah, Saturday, 13 February 2021 22:09 (five years ago)
i’m def in favor of them changing the court to make three point shooting more of a specialized skill again but we’ll see if things normalize once fans return
NBA basketball isn’t an ungovernable naturally occurring force... the league can do things to make the product a bit better to watch on a night to night basis (playoff basketball doesn’t really have this problem)
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 13 February 2021 22:11 (five years ago)
i think the fans will make a difference but also players are prob just getting better at shooting too
― lag∞n, Saturday, 13 February 2021 22:11 (five years ago)
my three point plan:1. widen the court and move the line out2. play fewer games a year (58?)3. dial back the officiating just a little so the play is at say 2013 levels of physicalitybonus point. have fewer playoff teams, first round is best of 5 the top two teams in each conf get a bye and its finished in a week
― lag∞n, Saturday, 13 February 2021 22:15 (five years ago)
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 February 2021 9:09 AM
moving the line out by two feet wont make it a specialised skill for more than a couple of seasons. if your problem is that nba players shoot too well its not going to go away. all rule changes can do is decrease volume
