bill walton was a fantastic top-tier hoops player and is a deeply weird person.

my key memory of bill walton as a sports announcer was him doing a national game with marv albert in the immediate aftermath of albert's sexual assault case in '97 ()before the network fired Marv... for those who weren't around or may have forgotten, here's the wiki:

Albert became embroiled in a sexual assault scandal in 1997. A 42-year-old woman named Vanessa Perhach accused Albert of throwing her onto a bed, biting her, then forcing her to perform oral sex after a February 12, 1997 argument in his Pentagon City hotel room. DNA testing linked Albert to genetic material taken from the bite marks and from semen in Perhach's underwear. During the trial, testimony was presented from another woman, Patricia Masden, who told the jury Albert had bitten her on two different occasions in 1993 and 1994 in Miami and Dallas hotels respectively, which she viewed as unwanted sexual advances. Masden claimed that in Dallas, Albert called her to his hotel room to help him send a fax, only for her to find him wearing "white panties and garter belt". Albert maintained that Perhach had requested that he bite her and denied her accusation he had asked her to bring another man into their sexual affair. He described the recorded conversation of hers with the police on the night of the incident as "an Academy Award performance". After tests proved that the bite marks were his, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery charges, while the sodomy charge was dropped. Albert was given a 12-month suspended sentence.

So anyway, there was a series of plays where walton was clearly actively needling albert about it on-air, talking about how some player was "chomping at the bit" to play and "hungry to tear into the competition" and "sharpening his teeth" and at a certain point he asked Marv for his opinion about something like if such and such player was ready to take a bite out of the league. Then the booth went completely silent for like a possession and a half and when they came back, it was just Marv calling plays and Bill completely shut up for the quarter. If that had happened during the twitter era, it would've been national news, as it stands I've never met anyone who remembers having heard that game.

thinking its prob because 3 of their not very many playable guys are centers, anyway its an awful lineup and theyre getting absolutely smoked with both those guys on the floor, cld at least try to play both of them against the other teams scrubs instead of starting them

jaylen is just playing out of his mind, he getting such good looks, which is what you should do if youre an elite athlete, hes really saving the celtics right now with kemba out and hayward gone defenses are loading up on tatum

interesting watching his makes in sequence in that game--starts off hitting 3s and coming off a lot of screens, then once he has that working he starts pump faking and getting into the midrange or all the way to the basket. it's a cliche but the game has really slowed down for him.

yeah hes just on balance and not rushing almost all the time now, and hes so strong and in such great shape and so athletic that hes just physically superior to most players, starting to look a little kawhiesque
