do u guys follow uniwatch on twitter seems like the entire —uniform obsessive culture— has bad taste, tho mostly its about cataloging things more than taste

i remember reading uniwatch back in the day on page 2 and the guy would do like two paragraphs about how the florida marlins removed the turquoise trim from their home alternate uniforms for the 2004 season. it was completely insane but i guess i respected the obsessiveness.

the profusion of new uniforms has produced a bunch that dont really look like basketball uniforms

i think it's cool that silver is trying to bring in the alternate jersey concept from soccer but it's connected to this "city" idea which produces all these insanely tortured attempts at "meaningful" design

yah all about revenue and 'increased engagement' of course. i really just cant believe how bad nike has missed on so many of these but it would be interesting to see the inner workings of how all this goes down. my buddy was a designer for the suns (first year of the nike takeover) and he says they get to propose ideas on top of what nike proposes so im sure its just a massive dump of ideas placed before the senior leaders and they probably just armchair it to death from there.

yeah the fact that so many of them are so conceptual is a clear indication that theyve been meetinged to hell

It’s a brilliant opportunity to do some neat work and build on the NBA’s history of trendsetting visual design and even complement the fashion sense of the players and it’s funny that they seem to just whiff it 1/2 to 2/3 of the time.
