yeah the idea of the big moment is so central to sports mythology but prob doesnt matter that much to actual playing sports

there are such things as nba players who noticeably do not want the ball in a clutch situation and make a pass when they should take the open shot, but the self-confidence level of nba players is pretty damned high in general, so such players are few.

yeah and those guys are mostly like... jeff green, so it doesnt really matter
― lag∞n, Sunday, 6 September 2020 19:54 (five years ago)
oh yeah i guess im willing to believe the hot hand exists in the sense that like, if a player has their shooting mechanics particularly on form then thats probably repeatable over a stretch, but its not related to clutch game situations
― ciderpress, Sunday, 6 September 2020 20:03 (five years ago)
Welp time to make history I guess

When Giannis was told that no nba team had come back to win from a 3-0 deficit, he was quoted saying, "It could be us. It could definitely be us." And now I'm watching this thinking, "nope, it's not you."

But it could be

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been diagnosed with a right ankle sprain and is out for the game, per team.— Malika Andrews (@malika_andrews) September 6, 2020

Anunoby did a hurry up motion which probably decreased the chances he’d choke

spo not challenging the dante foul and then taking out bam and then jae crowder forcing dragic into a heave with a time out in their back pocket not the heat’s finest moment
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 September 2020 22:08 (five years ago)
middleton did not want the shot at the end of the game... dante bailed him out
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 6 September 2020 22:09 (five years ago)

BUCKS
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Sunday, 6 September 2020 22:50 (five years ago)
Jimmy Buckets had a bad stretch of hero ball in the second quarter. He'd drive, the Bucks would collapse the middle and swarm him, then he'd make a bad pass or wild shot; it seemed like about six consecutive possessions.

That was great, cad! Got 8, which is a lot better than I was expecting. Can someone explain why Tatum shouldn't have gone under the screen there in #1?
― Fetchboy, Monday, 7 September 2020 04:51 (five years ago)
i'm guessing the plan there was to go over because lowry is a good shooter and you don't want to give him a comfortable three
― call all destroyer, Monday, 7 September 2020 04:53 (five years ago)
Just seemed like with Ibaka coming so far out he got whatever look over Kanter he would've got otherwise. But maybe that extra step Ibaka took (moving screen?) took him by surprise?
― Fetchboy, Monday, 7 September 2020 05:02 (five years ago)
That may have been the worst game Westbrook has ever played they are so much better with like mclemore getting those minutes right now. Classic rockets shoot themselves into a game then shoot themselves out of a game.

― micah, Monday, 7 September 2020 06:44 (five years ago)
I got an 8, better than I expected.
I've been paying attention to basketball my whole life and I have never heard the term "tag and cleanse" - I get the idea of "cleansing" (stepping out of the lane, I guess) to avoid the 3 second call, but tagging? Does simply touching an offensive player reset a defensive player's time in the lane?
I clicked the link with that one but I don't subscribe to the Athletic.
― alpine static, Monday, 7 September 2020 08:47 (five years ago)
yeah it resets - defensive 3 seconds only applies if youre not closely guarding a player
― micah, Monday, 7 September 2020 09:50 (five years ago)
that was a fun quiz! I only got 6/10
― k3vin k., Monday, 7 September 2020 11:53 (five years ago)
I got 1/1. I had to re-run the first clip six or seven times, play it through once in stop-motion, squint to read the jersey numbers because I don't know most of the Celtics. Took two minutes--too much work.
― clemenza, Monday, 7 September 2020 13:29 (five years ago)
i blamed kanter on the first one cause i figured it was a safe bet
― lag∞n, Monday, 7 September 2020 13:50 (five years ago)
