read that earlier and like it for the most part BUT it using three seasons of data to make arguments about this series is kinda lame, embiid has actually been dominating this year hes like 30-15 every night, and previous years they had al horford, one of the best post defenders

btw they played horf big minutes tonight instead of trying to match up with bostons perimeter guys and what do you know their D was much better, playing yr best guys is a good idea

yeah that's fair, i just like that it shows what strategies you can use against a dominating post guy when you don't have the right one on one defender. making him catch it further out, bringing the double at the right time, playing 2 against 3 on the weak side are all things they've used in this series to at least some effect.

yeah the stuff about the scheme was good

tho i do think it gave boston too much credit for making embiid catch in bad spots a lot of that is he just gets tired and stops trying to get position + phillys offense is trash they dont really do anything clever to get him into his spots

yeah it's probably a natural tendency for philly that has become a point of emphasis for boston's defense, like once you notice that trend especially later in the game just tell your centers to nudge him out as far as possible.

watching the refs bail spent embiid out down the stretch tonight was pitiful he was just turning into guys and throwing the ball up in whatever random direction one of his shots landed over near the corner of the court and it wasnt any sort of hard foul he was just flailing, then they finally let a couple of those plays go down the stretch and that was that

i'm starting to wonder where embiid goes from here. it's becoming clear he can't carry a starter's load for a full game when it matters. do his teams just keep kidding themselves that he can or what?

he can probably get in better shape, and play in a style/system thats less taxing than just fighting in the post all night, feel like a change of scenery might be useful

but hes obvs not super passionate about being good at basketball so who knows

yeah part of my thinking is that he's had opportunities to get in shape and yet i'm not sure he's ever actually been in shape. so maybe this is just the shape he's in, to paraphrase the band

my understanding is they only wanted to give him 4 years and so that was kind of the end of it

my assumption is if they offer him the contract he wants he takes it... he actually liked the sixers from what i can gather. he still hangs out w simmons off the court

he never really clicked there basketball wise and showed up on the heats doorstep the first day of free agency but who knows

he may have wanted out to find a place where he could alpha dog in peace... either way the sixers reasoning was the longterm concern of the contract which doesn’t really make sense to me when the embiid-simmons core needs to be maxed out asap

sixers argument would prob be that they got horford on a shorter deal with some non guaranteed money but they’re paying him almost $100 million for his age 33-36 seasons so it’s like... you balked at paying jimmy butler $40 million when he’s 35 but will give al horford

$28 million.... for a fit that doesn’t work. i just don’t think there’s a string of logic connecting the moves they made this offseason
