its definitely all extremely sketchy and feelbad even if it works. i don't really want to watch anymore, wish they had just focused on figuring out next season instead but now we're probably gonna get 2 weird asterisk seasons instead of 1

i'm excited, mostly because this seems much more likely to go well than the 20/21 season does. i understand not being excited but i don't think it's particularly sketchy. making everyone go to their home markets first isn't looking amazing but i don't really blame the nba for that.

I too will watch the hoop no doubt about it. I didn’t think it was gonna happen until players started showing up this week. I’m still not 100% convinced.

I would not tell anyone they shouldn't feel this way, but I think the "choice" is really between 1 weird asterisk season and 0 seasons, because if they don't complete this season, next season may be even worse/more difficult due to which way the numbers are going and the refusal of some states to get their shit together.

cad can correct me, but I think the issue was not with canceling this season but with canceling next season entirely.

My only point is that canceling this season in no way helps next season to happen as that will be dictated by how we are doing with the virus then.

And I say this with zero animus toward anyone who says shut it all down until we have a vaccine.

iirc if the players had elected not to play this season, the owners would have triggered the force majeure clause in the CBA and essentially ripped up the entire document. i don't think it's related to a # of games but is more generic to cover major catastrophic events.

finishing out this season will help with issues related to next season at least as far as the CBA is concerned. there will probably need to be some adjustments to the way the cap is calculated but i think anyone speculating about what those are is way ahead of themselves.

Looks like the NBA CBA has a force majeure clause where the owners can cancel if games are suspended for more than 60 days. They've basically been kicking the can down the road.

They should just replace the Nets with the Pelicans in the playoffs and tell all the other bubble teams not to come. It would be safer and it's what everyone wants (including the Nets).
