Hasn’t played meaningful minutes in like 10 years and can still cook a 20 y/o with one simple triple threat jab move. Luv 2 c it

I think I’d put money on this season not happening

Spottie, Thursday, 11 June 2020 15:29 (five years ago)

i understand some of the trepidation but the time to raise these concerns would have been before the nbapa agreed to the league's restart plan.

Sources: Players deciding against participating in Orlando could be replaced by a substitution player. NBA plans to allow replacements for players who test positive for COVID-19 or suffer injuries. Replaced players become ineligible for the rest of 2019-2020 season. https://t.co/6J62J0k8Nv

i understand why the players don't really want to be sequestered for 3 months but the other option is no season?

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 June 2020 19:16 (five years ago)

yes

Spottie, Thursday, 11 June 2020 19:17 (five years ago)

again i don't get the point of posturing about it now that everything has been voted on, but i'd be surprised if more than a handful of players elect to not come back.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 11 June 2020 19:29 (five years ago)

to generalize broadly, for the role players and bench players it will be about their paychecks. for the max players and all-stars it will be about how playing or not will meet their personal goals. I think they'll play and it will feel extremely strange at first, then we'll all get used to it.

A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 11 June 2020 19:38 (five years ago)

one thing to consider is ballers ball

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 June 2020 20:13 (five years ago)

i suspect the players baseline want to play, whether everything else outweighs that...

A picture of Jokic emerged and he actually is rail thin

NBA Jam sound drops

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 12 June 2020 17:09 (five years ago)

Adding to Taylor's report: I'm told today's conf call could involve up to 200 players. Also hearing that Kyrie Irving has been a driving force in organizing these calls, and in raising concerns over NBA's bubble plan. https://t.co/0voQafmveO

— Howard Beck (@HowardBeck) June 12, 2020

Spottie, Friday, 12 June 2020 18:00 (five years ago)

started with this tweet:

Yahoo Sources: Significant number of players disappointed their voice wasn’t heard in decision to restart season, and others believe black players sequestered to entertain and ease league’s economic burden amid racial tension is bad optics. https://t.co/F4BiqWD6uQ pic.twitter.com/hhw8rGdLh8

— Chris Haynes (@ChrisBHaynes) June 12, 2020

this season isnt happening

Spottie, Friday, 12 June 2020 18:00 (five years ago)

As @TaylorRooks, @HowardBeck reports, Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving has organized a call tonight for players to discuss what position they should take. He’s of mindset that during racial tension, not returning to play should be considered, sources say. https://t.co/8W8VaZMxQh

I miss the hoops but support whatever they decide

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 12 June 2020 18:26 (five years ago)

others believe black players sequestered to entertain and ease league’s economic burden amid racial tension is bad optics.

this isn't wrong? a few hundred predominantly black millionaires put themselves at risk while sequestering themselves from loved ones and divorcing themselves from a historic moment addressing race in america so that a smaller group of predominantly white billionaires can make more money.
i want to see basketball as much or more than the next guy but a principled stand for player safety and forcing the league further toward social consciousness as concessions toward sticking their necks out seems entirely appropriate.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 12 June 2020 18:28 (five years ago)

100%

Spottie, Friday, 12 June 2020 18:40 (five years ago)

it isn't wrong.

but what this is showing is how badly the nbapa botched this by already holding a proxy vote that passed, when apparently close to half the league might have voted the other way! i sure would hate to see the owners weaponize this to get monetary concessions for next season beyond the salary everyone would already be losing.

given where we are, it *seems* like using the return as a platform for messaging social change and getting the league to pitch in on that front would be reasonable.

call all destroyer, Friday, 12 June 2020 18:56 (five years ago)

this is a good summary of where we are: https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2020/06/kyrie-irving-is-driving-force-behind-player-call-questioning-whether-nba-should-restart-during-social-unrest-reports.html

It seems like the fairest thing is just to leave it up to each individual player. If only 250 players show up so be it

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 13 June 2020 01:30 (five years ago)

yeah

lag∞n, Saturday, 13 June 2020 01:44 (five years ago)

amount of peer pressure gonna be wild tho, plus the possible fear of being stained by being the guy on the team that stayed home

Clay, Saturday, 13 June 2020 01:49 (five years ago)

if only 250 players show up there's no way to crown a legitimate champion for the season

call all destroyer, Saturday, 13 June 2020 02:10 (five years ago)

Kyrie Irving told NBA players on call Friday, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium: "I don’t support going into Orlando. I’m not with the systematic racism and the bullshit. Something smells a little fishy."

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) June 13, 2020

i really am sympathetic to player concerns but would feel a lot better if the guy leading this was a) actually capable of playing in the first place and b) not kyrie irving who seems to see a conspiracy in a plan that existed prior to the beginning of the protests
