Absolutely. Pre MJ nearly everyone looks awkward and stiff in comparison. Even someone like Dr J has an awkward game apart from his modern style athletic finishing abilities. Post MJ you have journeyman randos who can smoothly break guys down off the dribble and finish with a double clutch reverse. Just elevated the vocabulary of basketball.

Prime Bird, MJ or Magic would be the best player in the nba right now.
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 00:37 (six years ago)
I feel like ABA Erving was probably a shorter Giannis
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 00:39 (six years ago)
Bird and Magic but the latter pair felt much more old school.

iirc bird was on the jordan bandwagon early saying something like "maybe theyll leave me alone now" when asked about him lol
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 01:01 (six years ago)
also a bit in some dream team doc where bird and magic were getting each other amped to go against jordan at their first practice and he came in and just annihilated them and they were both all welp our time is over now

props to bird for appreciating the good basketball

63 point game. God in basketball shoes. That was MJs 2nd year and only played like 19 reg season games.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 01:44 (six years ago)
I always thought Magic was over the hill by 91 finals. But he was only 31 when he retired. Wow that was a shame.
― A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 01:46 (six years ago)
My friends and i all thought Magic was going to die in a month iirc

Fultz is good now and that’s cool. Orlando was the perfect spot for him to get his groove back

lonnie walker single handedly willed this spurs team into a tie against the rockets after being down 16 going into the 4th
― peloton for the painfully alone (m bison), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 03:48 (six years ago)
scored 19 pts in the 4th alone, including a dagger 3 to tie it from about 28 ft out
― peloton for the painfully alone (m bison), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 03:50 (six years ago)
That’s cool I gotta check the highlights
― de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 03:54 (six years ago)
yeah that's great. spurs need to be trying anything right now.
these clippers uniforms are very confusing in a game against portland.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 03:58 (six years ago)
Spurs need to let the kids play and get rid of the middle aged midrangers
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:00 (six years ago)
rondo is such torture to watch
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:01 (six years ago)
Pretty sure Gary Harris is the best defensive 2 guard in the league
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:10 (six years ago)
is the clippers court the worst in the league bc it is really awful
― Clay, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:14 (six years ago)
just athletically speaking idk if the spurs have ever had a player like lonnie. kawhi is an athletic freak but lonnie’s explosiveness is different. if he can knock down threes he’s gonna be an awesome player for them. he’s gonna be able to score at the rim and has the length to be a pest on defense.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:17 (six years ago)
he's been doing that all night tonight
― peloton for the painfully alone (m bison), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:22 (six years ago)
Is Lonnie good tho I’m not sure
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:23 (six years ago)
looking ahead at the playoffs, the heat look like a bad match up for the raptors. bam shut down siakam tonight and the raptors have no post offense to counter the heat putting their de facto center on him.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:23 (six years ago)
Lonnie Walker IV dropped 19 PTS in the 4Q to force OT 😳 pic.twitter.com/VQA2ny501n— Bleacher Report NBA (@BR_NBA) December 4, 2019
Nuggets really needed Barton to hit some of these threes
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:26 (six years ago)
Spurs rox has been fun. Russ is ROUGHHHHthink he’s like 8/32 fg or something
― de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:28 (six years ago)
Harden has like 30 fta
russ 7-30harden 11-38
― peloton for the painfully alone (m bison), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:28 (six years ago)
only harden can get 50 on 11 made shots lol
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:29 (six years ago)
I saw 11/38 with 4/20 downtown and yet 50 pts and muttered “fuck” aloud and my wife thought I’d just heard some bad news.
― omar little, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:29 (six years ago)
haa
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:30 (six years ago)
lonnie is a big time athlete and has some skill. he could shoot 3s and finish at the rim in college and took big shots. he has a lot of raw talent he just needed to learn to play the game. i think he landed in a great spot and the spurs are going to turn him into a really nice player. in terms of athleticism/ceiling he’s several cuts above what they’ve been working with lately with guys like forbes and white, and they’ve even turned those guys into players.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:30 (six years ago)
in all seriousness tho harden gotta do better than 50 in a double ot if he wants to average 40 this year
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:31 (six years ago)
white is v talented but gets in his own head and overthinks shit, so he has ebbs. forbes is one of the worst defenders in the league, but he tries, and he's an incredibly gifted shooter. lonnie is something else.

― de-mamba mentality (Spottie), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 04:32 (six years ago)
big night for russ
Only 5 players since the ABA/NBA merger in 1976 took 30+ shots but scored 20 points or less. Tonight, Russ became the 6th. Congrats to Russ! Also... check out the Mike Mitchell line from 1980. pic.twitter.com/donWkDXFNf— Bill Simmons (@BillSimmons) December 4, 2019

lonnie was a 5 star top 15 recruit who was pretty good his one year in college. i think he fell in the draft because he’s had some minor knee issues but it was a steal for the spurs. he’s gonna be better than guys like jerome robinson, troy brown jr, zhaire smith, devencenzo who were taken immediately before him.
