Drafting true superstars outside the lottery picks is not impossible, but it is not a skill one can acquire. when it happens it's pure luck. Once you get outside of the 'unicorn' stratum of NBA players, the separation between starting rotation players and bench players gets a lot narrower and even the difference between training camp players and contract players is mighty slim. When you compare how well teams did using their below-20 picks over the past seven or eight years, then you're comparing very marginal differences. In my estimation, they are all nearly equally bad and good, except for a few picks more ascribable to luck than the skill of the drafting team.
With the Spurs, I'd say most of their success is in coaching, player development and predicting how a player's skills and temperament will merge with the whole team's concept of play. Many of their best moves have been to acquire players who've been in the league a while already, but poorly utilized by or poorly fit with their old team.

gsw have curry, klay, russell and dray on contract through to 2022 and still own their 2021 and 2022 first round picks. thats a pretty good situation for a superteam with 3 rings.
sure theyll suck this season but thats to be expected for a capped out team with its second best player injured

Watching the nuggets with an antenna. They still don’t have a local cable tv arrangement but bought time for the home opener on a local channel. Would like this to end in general.

the ultimate question with them is whether bledsoe is gonna play up to what they’re paying him... he’s taking as many shots as guys they’re paying far less money

The Warriors' center rotation endured another blow today, as Kevon Looney will miss the next two games — and likely longer — with a "neuropathic condition" that has affected his right hamstring. https://t.co/jYlc94vFvV— Connor Letourneau (@Con_Chron) October 27, 2019

he's def already hinted at it, that said every team in the east is pretty flawed. i think i'd still take giannis + middleton over the sixers out of the east since at least those 2 can get/make shots

The bucks roster makes a lot of sense and I think they’re probably gonna make the finals but yeah it would be nice to have a promising 4/5 on the team under 30
