that's why i think some part of it is about how much resources you have available in a development sense -- where is your coaching, playing time going etc. maybe it's not a coincidence that the heat post-lebron started unearthing multiple useful rotation players from the scrap heap per year

Plenty of teams draft guys and then send them to the d league and when they get called up they can play. The warriors just whiffed over and over and that’s on the GM

Heat have had some great FA signings but the reasons things are really turning around (seemingly) are Adebayo and Herro

the spurs are an exception... they def could've done better but this is mostly the norm

Waiters and JJ got suspended and are on their way out, Whiteside is gone etc xp

Jord Bob Myers has been GM for 7 years and has made one good draft pick. And it was in his first draft! There’s not many teams with a draft track record like that. Even David Kahn picked Bjelica.

the heat had a nice run of finding quality rotation players from little to nothing incl whiteside, tyler johnson, rodney mcgruder, derrick jones & richardson who was a second round pick... and they "player developed" james johnson, waiters & wayne ellington as vets. it only gets you so far when you don't have the top end talent and that's why they were a roughly .500 team over that period, but my original point is that it's much easier to find diamonds in the rough when you have many more resources to devote to sifting

the warriors were built in a very weird way from tanking for barnes, to offloading all that shit for iggy, to the cap spike coinciding w/ KD's free agency. i think it's hard to evaluate how good of a GM bob meyers is in a traditional sense. but we used to argue about whether pat riley is a good GM and i would say that there's different ways to be a good GM aside from just good drafting, so i'm not as willing to hold that against him given that they also won 3 titles.

the only players taken after jordan bell in the 2017 draft who ended up being better were dwayne bacon and thomas bryant. the best undrafted FA was antonio blakeney. \(o_O)/

Dude Monte Morris is wayyyyyyy better than Jordan bell. He’d be the 4th best player on the warriors right now!

It looks like Edmond Sumner is going to be good too. And who knows about Cancar. But Jordan Bell most definitely did not work out for the Warriors.

Nuggets had Monte on a two way where he spent half his time in Sioux Falls and he managed to make it work

i mean he didn't seem very skilled, whatever. i'm not really taking up the case of bob meyers. i'm just saying that logically it makes sense to me that franchises doing everything they can to win a title every year for several years are going to be pretty unsuccessful at acquiring and developing young and/or scrap heap talent.

They went out of their way to spend millions on second rounders, they put the effort in and wanted to make good picks and they didn’t

He had seven years to find an udfa, hit on one second rounder, one first rounder. And his failure to do so likely led to catastrophic injuries that wrecked the dynasty! Just one Joe Ingles would have changed everything.

like since drafting capela, the best player young player daryl morey has found is montrezl, who did nothing on the rockets before being traded bcuz there was no playing time. otherwise it's..... danuel house?

and if the warriors had joe ingles right now people would maybe expect them to make the playoffs and lose in the first round instead of miss the playoffs altogether, so i'm not sure i'd say it would "change everything" exactly

That nonsense in the playoffs when they basically never sat Durant led to his injury, it seems pretty obvious

When the heat had the triplets + bird man they had a good excuse because Riley literally had an empty roster when they signed them. Myers had 7 years to find one guy.

But they had no good players, klay and Durant played 40mpg in the playoffs and that was all she wrote

i don't think it's that simple. and the way the west shifted this season means that no draft pick or UDFA could bridge the gap between them and the LA teams

We all knew Durant was playing too minutes, Kerr kept shrugging off questions about it but we all knew. And then he got hurt.

One good player would have taken so much pressure off and they win the title most likely.

sure but the calculus that led to that wouldn't change simply due to the presence of one more slightly above average wing player

Joe Ingles is far far better than any player they had outside of the big 4. It would have made a huge difference.

Plays Durant’s positions too. It would have been great. James Johnson would have been pretty good too.

ok but joe ingles was so good that he signed a 4/52 contract two years ago so idk how he would've been able to stay on the warriors

What are they not paying the luxury tax?

winslow was fully good last year once he started playing point regularly. and he's been 37%+ from three for 2 years. he's not some prodigy or something but the stanley johnson debate is over and he might be better than myles turner at this point. devin booker def still better but winslow has established himself in that draft class.

i think him and butler are gonna be a really good tandem, watch how many times winslow assists him in this

Winslow is a good player and stats probably don’t convey how good he is but I still think they got a role player in the lotto there

Stan Johnson is a pretty amazing bust. The number 3 recruit in high school

def but he could be a really good role player. it wasn't the heist people were saying at the time, but when the year's lottery produces 7 good players and you get one of them i think that's a success unless there's some egregious misstep. maybe you could say passing on booker was one, we know they love kentucky players.
