That "rip city" thing got identified with the championship team in 1977 and wrote Schonley's meal ticket for a couple more decades.

ever have a thing where there's an nba player whose entire existence you just...missed?

i'm watching a hardwood classics of the cavs/wiz 1st round series in 2006 and am realizing that ronald "flip" murray is not a person i had heard of or really had any awareness of. he was second on that cavs team in minutes played! and there are 10 other guys on that team who i have a working knowledge of.

most of his career occurred during the period when i wasn't paying the most attention to the nba but i always read a lot and have a good recall for names and stuff and yet somehow this guy flew completely under my radar.

totally, i was looking back at the 1999 spurs team and totally forgot that will perdue was on it. he was the return in the dennis rodman trade! he was maybe the spurs second best player in the 1996-97 injury season!

Carisis LaVerted (m bison), Thursday, 1 August 2019 01:27 (six years ago)

Always used to mix up Ronald "Flip" Murray with Cuttino "Cat" Mobley. 6'4" shooting guards, contemporaneous careers. Murray definitely more nondescript, though - in addition to being a more prolific scorer, Mobley was well known for his unusually tight friendship with Steve Francis.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 1 August 2019 01:40 (six years ago)

mobley of course also had to retire prematurely...that i remember and it was a bummer.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 1 August 2019 01:42 (six years ago)

fascinating end to this game btw....wiz up 1 in overtime with 14 second left and arenas chokes on two free throws....like they're not even close. after the first miss *lebron* of all people walks up to arenas, gently taps him off the chest, and appears to offer encouragement--in the nba twitter era this would have been like the most insane thing that ever happened.

anyway, lebron's words don't help and arenas back-rims the second one. cavs get the ball and damon jones is the hero hitting a baseline jumper on the other end for the win in his first action all night.

theres some notable guys with short careers who peaked during the early-mid 00s that i missed completely - i'm not sure i ever watched michael redd play a single game

With free agency looming next summer, three-time All-Star Draymond Green has agreed to a four-year, $100M maximum contract extension with Golden State, agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports tells ESPN.

have fun paying that luxury tax for a decade!!!!!!!

Carisis LaVerted (m bison), Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:16 (six years ago)

The new deal, which starts with the 2020-21 season, brings the total length and value of Green’s contract to five years, $118M. https://t.co/nHuVPDCzda

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) August 3, 2019

Green’s extension pays him $22.2M, $24M, $25.8M and $27.6M over the course of the deal. The Warriors will have $129M and $138M committed to their four max players — Curry, Thompson, Green and Russell — in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, respectively.

roared man gets paid

Carisis LaVerted (m bison), Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:22 (six years ago)

keeping the band together i guess

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:23 (six years ago)

Is 5/118 really a max?

big city slam (Spottie), Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:33 (six years ago)

irs a max extension i think, the first year of that is his current contract then the rest is the extension, and he maybe cldve bee eligible for more if he waited til next year

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:35 (six years ago)

Uh yah dude coulda got way more he coulda got what klay got no?

big city slam (Spottie), Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:36 (six years ago)

if he makes all nba

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:38 (six years ago)

Klay didn’t

big city slam (Spottie), Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:40 (six years ago)

oh lol

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 15:42 (six years ago)

this seems like a pretty good deal for the warriors

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 August 2019 16:37 (six years ago)

guys who right now are making more per year than draymond will make at any point in this deal... wiggins, porzingis, booker, otto porter, cj mccollum, demar derozan, kevin love, paul millsap, gordon hayward, jimmy butler, kyle lowry, blake griffin

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 August 2019 16:40 (six years ago)

draymond took less per year every year of his contract than andre drummond is making this year in a contract he signed 3.5 years ago

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 August 2019 16:42 (six years ago)

kudos to the BABs for paying the lux tax tbh

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 17:03 (six years ago)

idk if its ~going to work~ but its prob their best move

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 17:03 (six years ago)

lot depends on what they can get for russell now seems like

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 17:04 (six years ago)

if they weren't gonna take draymond at that number they obv had no intention of resigning him and would've had to trade him

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 August 2019 17:05 (six years ago)

ya trading him wldve been the other move

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 17:07 (six years ago)

trading him would have been “bad for basketball”

brimstead, Saturday, 3 August 2019 17:25 (six years ago)

it wldve been good for "figuring out if draymond is good at basketball" tho

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 17:47 (six years ago)

wow, that’s an extremely tradable contract in a couple years for filler/matching purposes.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 3 August 2019 18:22 (six years ago)

My question is why did he need klutch if he was gonna take a team friendly deal. Could’ve saved a big chunk of money making that deal on his own. Maybe they have other things outside of hoops lined up for him tho.

big city slam (Spottie), Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:17 (six years ago)

idk if its ~going to work~ but its prob their best move

agree with this

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:19 (six years ago)

Goon still Questioning if dray is good at basketball leads me to believe he doesn’t actually watch basketball anymore. Real shame.

big city slam (Spottie), Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:20 (six years ago)

Deal prob comes with a promise of a statue outside the San Francisco’s basketball arena

Carisis LaVerted (m bison), Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:21 (six years ago)

skinny dray is great, but fat dray has some flaws

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:31 (six years ago)

Definitely lol

big city slam (Spottie), Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:32 (six years ago)

dray is one of the best playoff players in the league

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:34 (six years ago)

drayoffs

ciderpress, Saturday, 3 August 2019 19:54 (six years ago)

From the athletic

For those wondering why some are describing this four-year, $99.7 million deal as a maximum extension, the answer is in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The 2011 CBA severely limited extensions, which incidentally helped lead to the Warriors signing unrestricted free agent Kevin Durant in 2016. While the more recent 2016 CBA opened things up a little through the Designated Veteran system, players who do not qualify for the supermax are limited by their current contracts. These normal veteran extensions can only contain a 20-percent raise on the player’s salary in the final season before the extension kicks in. Since Green will make $18.5 million in 2019-20, his extension could only add four seasons starting at $22.2 million, leading to the $99.7 million overall figure. In all likelihood, that limitation helped produce an agreement, since the Warriors absolutely could not offer more right now, creating less contentious negotiations and easier optics.

we need empirical data on just how bad he is at offense, until then no conclusive judgements can be reached

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 22:44 (six years ago)

#tradeDray for science

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 August 2019 22:50 (six years ago)

idk what u count as empirical data, but last year he shot badly and still had an OffRtg of 108. he had a p meager offensive WS (1.1 in 66 Gs) and a negative off BPM (-1.4), but he did better in the offs on all metrics (110, 1.0 in 22 Gs, 0.2 respectively).

the data says he is not bad but not great at offense.

Carisis LaVerted (m bison), Saturday, 3 August 2019 23:13 (six years ago)

offensive rating is offensive to ratings

k3vin k., Saturday, 3 August 2019 23:14 (six years ago)

his on-off rating is p great. i mean look dray is who he is, the very personification of impact over stats. he is boris diaw but replace effervescent ennui with being mad af like 50% of the day.

Carisis LaVerted (m bison), Saturday, 3 August 2019 23:15 (six years ago)

on off is garbage sry, i mean like whos his backup some israeli guy

lag∞n, Sunday, 4 August 2019 02:06 (six years ago)

ill need to see him play with not the best offensive players ever, basketball stats are not good at figuring this stuff out

lag∞n, Sunday, 4 August 2019 02:08 (six years ago)

draymond is in the cat box until he plays for another team

ciderpress, Sunday, 4 August 2019 02:10 (six years ago)

otm hes cat until then

lag∞n, Sunday, 4 August 2019 02:11 (six years ago)
