so it looks like okc is asking for 2 of 3 of winslow, bam & tyler herro aka 2 of the heat's only 3 decent assets. the heat are balking understandably since they also want to keep their good players.

the most fair trade to me would just be an exchange of bad contracts but it seems more likely to me that the two teams settle on winslow as the one valuable piece going back to OKC

primarily bcuz it seems like he needs the ball in his hands and if the heat have westbrook and jimmy that job will be filled

the trade should be an even trade no way heat should give up that much. winslow is fine. bam and herro is too much.

the other thing is... does jimmy want to play with russ? seems like he wanted to be the dude in miami now he'd have to deal with russ idk

has it occurred to the heat that they could just not acquire westbrook?

they really shouldn't

everyone is like "oh that's the heat, that's just what they do," but....they could also *not* do it.

the heat's problem is that they seek another star but have no surplus of assets to send out w/o making their team worse to the point that getting the star is sorta pointless. so i feel like they have to evaluate which "star" might come into the market in the next year & how much it might take to acquire that guy. it's possible that russ on an essentially asset-free bad contract swap is their best option.

one thing that i think is in the heat's favor as it pertains to westbrook is that there is not really an open market per se for him so they may end up w/ leverage in like a closed negotiation. the ultimate question is whether the contract on its own ruins your team in the final 2 seasons regardless of how well you're able to negotiate the acquisition of it.

they're gonna trade winslow, olynyk, dragic, and a pick. maybe wait a month for herro to become tradeable.

they gotta keep bam. he's their 2nd best player right now.

they're def not trading him and i feel like herro has been too good in summer league, they won't trade him

winslow and dragic would be a pretty great haul for OKC given the circumstances... dragic was hurt last year but he's still legitimately good, they'd prob get good value for him in a flip

only an injury is keeping curry and dray out of the playoffs imo. that duo is better than a lot of the duos in there.

ive got the thunder falling out and the lakers in. kings the only other team i see making a run at the offs for now.

Clippers, lakers, rockets, nuggets, blazers, Jazz are locks to make the playoffs.

Suns, Thunder (assuming they trade WB), TWolves, Mavs, Grizzlies are very likely to miss.

Leaves the warriors and spurs to duke it out with the pelicans and Kings. I’d bet on the warriors to make it out of that bunch tbh

the warriors being at the hard cap with that team is pretty scary. other than a russell trade post 12/15 they literally can't improve the roster.

they have a 17 mill trade exception from the iggy deal next year

that's next year though. the hard cap also goes away next year. for this year they're incredibly fragile.
