windhorst thinks teams will still want to offer KD a full max even with the achilles, even if it's a full tear. which is reasonable if you think you get KD at like 80% in a year. but i dk about kd on the end of that contract, yikes.

hollow your fart (m bison), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 13:01 (six years ago)

yeah someone will def max him out

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:21 (six years ago)

Rich Paul tells SI that Anthony Davis would only be in Boston for one year if the Celtics traded for him: https://t.co/qZAb4qj70O pic.twitter.com/rLzFfxcWkP

ad says he only want the lakers or knicks, pelicans owner says she wont trade him to the lakers, the knicks have no assets, wtf is gonna happen

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:36 (six years ago)

guess someones gonna get a year rental for cheap

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:37 (six years ago)

guess they cld get the knicks picks but thats a pretty poor return for a perennial mvp candidate

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:38 (six years ago)

someone's def gonna try to rent and hope he changes his mind. i think the question is how much of this "he's only gonna play here or there" is sincere or a bargaining position to get a preferred outcome

hollow your fart (m bison), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:45 (six years ago)

Might have to be a multi team deal

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 14:59 (six years ago)

almost definitely

hollow your fart (m bison), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 15:06 (six years ago)

so much of it depends on what kind of package the pelicans decide they want back... nobody thought OKC was in the running for PG bcuz nobody thought the pacers wanted oladipo and sabonis, for instance.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:22 (six years ago)

kd will have an interesting offseason. if he opts in and rehabs with the warriors, they might be paying as much in tax as in total salary assuming klay re signs.

maybe someone will offer him a long term deal (or even a max??) regardless of his acl situation

― micah, Wednesday, June 12, 2019 8:58 AM (three hours ago) Bookmark

KD and golden state becomes super interesting now because idk how you devote essentially your entire salary cap to 4 players when one of those 4 -- the second most expensive one -- can't play for a whole season and then might not be fully recovered by the second season. i just don't see how that is a path for them to win a title in the next 2 seasons, and then by year 3 (if KD signed a longterm max) all these guys will be getting into their mid 30s. idk, i almost feel like the dubs can't resign him?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:29 (six years ago)

otm

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:32 (six years ago)

and then further it's hard to imagine him pairing up now w/ AD or kyrie or whatever because those guys also might be throwing away 2 seasons as far as championship contention goes. to me he makes the most sense for the nets since they're really at the beginning of their win curve, but i think they'd have to forego a giant free agent offseason for it to make tons of sense.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:34 (six years ago)

My optimistic read/guess is that Durant will throw away his option and sign a two-year deal that gives them some flexibility next year.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:46 (six years ago)

i don't really understand the upside in that for the warriors

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:52 (six years ago)

you'd have to really strongly believe that he was an achilles outlier which he very well may be but idk man

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:53 (six years ago)

Not sure about Durant and GS, really feel like he’s been ready to move on and this injury might just be the nail in the coffin. the likelihood also depends on what was happening behind the scenes leading up to game 5. Anyway this injury really sucks.

omar little, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:53 (six years ago)

yeah the third rail that nobody really knows is what his feelings are regarding the organization and his injury

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:56 (six years ago)

his injury timeline whenever that comes out will change a lot of plans. if fully torn i think his best bet would be to stay with the dubs. they can offer him the most (+ 5 years) and he can ease back in at his own pace with a familiar system with less pressure and a fanbase who love him. i dont see why he would not take maximum years possible, whoever he decides to sign with. warriors would have to retool on wing depth and give up on filling the roster with random centers. bring looney back tho. in 4 years all the main dudes would be 33-35 and that would be fine to keep rolling it back until then.

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 16:58 (six years ago)

it's financially risky but i wonder if he would thinking about opting in, sitting out the year to rehab, and then re-entering free agency in 2020.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:14 (six years ago)

Opting in is the worst-case scenario and also very likely unless they extend him, I think.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:16 (six years ago)

opting in and not playing at all wld be pretty funny

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:18 (six years ago)

I also wouldn't put it past KD to just leave it on the table and rehab on his own but that would be a truly insane decision.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:23 (six years ago)

if he does that frankly i gotta tip my cap

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:24 (six years ago)

it's a 12-month injury for some guys so it's not only funny, it's realistic!

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:31 (six years ago)

yup

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:31 (six years ago)

a continuous rehab for one full season and two offseasons would probably be super beneficial

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:32 (six years ago)

assuming he's out all 2020 it's kind of nuts that any team would offer him a big contract right now, even though I'm sure he'll easily get one. I can't think of a comparable situation at the moment

frogbs, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:34 (six years ago)

guess the question is if he wants to play for any of the teams that wld be willing to put that deal on the table

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 17:37 (six years ago)

why do they not have news

Steve Kerr: "We don't have any news on Kevin (Durant). I guess there's some speculation out there on what's going on. But we have no news. As soon as we have updates, we'll let you know."

wonder if he just peaced the f out

lag∞n, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 19:50 (six years ago)

they went to NY that's the last anyone's heard i think. probably seeking multiple opinions i would guess. the fatc its taken this long gives me some hope its not a complete tear but thats probobaly just wishful thinking

big city slam (Spottie), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 19:54 (six years ago)

Celtics and Lakers are engaged in trade talks with New Orleans on All-NBA star Anthony Davis, league sources tell me, @ZachLowe_NBA, @ramonashelburne and @WindhorstESPN. Lakers No. 4 pick has been discussed as trade chip to help Pels acquire high-level player in multi-team deals.

I don't think KD will opt in. Everybody knows that there are more teams out there with oodles of cap space than there are actual first-tier players to spend it on. Whoever ends up striking out on building a super team is going to be more than happy to pay KD $40+ million per year. I do agree that whoever ends up with Kyrie or Kawhi or AD if it's a team that thinks they can keep him, probably wouldn't be jumping to pair that guy with Durant now.

not sure this is plausible, but it would be cool to see New Orleans hold onto AD, basically force him to give it a go with Zion next year, then if he walks after 19-20, sign a (hopefully) recovered KD to pair with the thicc boy.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 20:35 (six years ago)

dont think id want to be the team that maxes kd

micah, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 21:47 (six years ago)

dubs are capped out regardless until the end of the Splash/Dray era and wouldn't be able to replace him with anything above the MLE so disregarding what it would cost Lacob in luxury taxes it's really their best move in fielding a competitive team

Fetchboy, Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:06 (six years ago)

would it be possible for GS to sign him to a long extension, but pay him like league minimum next year? that might give them a chance to sign a decent FA and still guarantee KD years and money and aging out with the rest of the core. don't know if KD would want to do that tho

k3vin k., Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:09 (six years ago)

If I'm KD, I'm not signing anywhere unless I like their medical staff a lot.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 12 June 2019 22:11 (six years ago)

xp i believe there are controls in place on raises/declines in contracts to prevent that type of thing.
