Got to say, I kind of hope Auburn keeps up the hot streak and wins it all. Doubt it will happen, but it would be easily the most unlikely left field champion since Villanova back in the 80s.

Texas Tech and Virginia winning would be total outliers too.

I'd say this is Tom Izzo's best chance to win a second title.

I'll watch the games, but my interest is confined to hoping for a close game with some nice plays. Three teams from schools in ex-Confederate states and an Izzo team don't give me much to root for.

Well, in my lifetime those ex-Confederate states were still actively Jim Crow segregationist states, and the universities in those states were solid bastions of white privilege, whose traditions of racism have not yet disappeared. So, it is very hard for me to see them as having brand new 'storylines' which don't mention that glaring fact.

To continue the derail, Oregon didn't join the confederacy, although it certainly had a lot of copperheads and sympathizers living here at the time of the civil war. In the nineteenth century it enacted some Jim Crow-like laws, but it was nowhere near so systematic as the southern states were. After 1930, roughly speaking, Oregon's segregation morphed to be like that of every other state in the union at the time, enforced by deed covenants and redlining by banks instead of Jim Crow.

I know Oregon's racist history (and present), and it is shameful. But yes, it is still unlike that of Texas, Virginia or godforsaken Alabama.
