god I love the nba and especially that the knicks are in it truly a delicious combo

Clay, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:47 (seven years ago)

i think this is amazing for porzingis... he's leaving one of the most destructive franchises in the nba for one who built its entire offensive system around a large white oaf who can shoot

J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:47 (seven years ago)

if it wasnt for zingers injury situation/risk itd be highway robbery, seems like a very reasonable risk as is

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:48 (seven years ago)

fun fact about "pace" btw this season is currently 17th out of 46 recorded seasons, really not all that it's made out to be imo

might want to check out how they played "basketball" back in the wilt russell days

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:48 (seven years ago)

back then they put the ball in the hoop iirc

almost every guy in every sport who has an ACL injury comes back fully healthy... this feels like a heist by the mavs to me

those stats don't extend to the wilt/russell era in fact they start right after wilt retired

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:51 (seven years ago)

point stands

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:51 (seven years ago)

knicks I guess trying to open up space for 2 max guys...to play with dennis smith junior and a 14% chance at the top lottery pick. cool idea!

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:52 (seven years ago)

point stands

― lag∞n, Thursday, January 31, 2019 3:51 PM (nine seconds ago)

the point has actually been refuted!!

its just that 7-4 guys tend to be injured and hes already had a major one early in his career

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:52 (seven years ago)

if your explanation of why ppl are putting up stats is in part "pace" it might make sense that pace is super high these days or something which it is not

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:53 (seven years ago)

it is super high compared to all other recent nba

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:53 (seven years ago)

also there are these things called pace-adjusted stats, per-100 stats and percentages and so forth and dudes are doing new stuff there too it's wild

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:55 (seven years ago)

yes, the game has changed, confounding pedantic appeals to empiricism

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:55 (seven years ago)

it's lower than all the 70s and 80s, m/l in line with most of the 90s actually, there are numbers to support this and everything idk

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:56 (seven years ago)

i think the gap between the best players and the median is maybe a lot bigger than the past

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:57 (seven years ago)

i can't believe i was at the game where dennis smith jr put up a triple double in the garden and then the knicks traded for him the next day

please write a 500 word essay about 1. how long ago he 1990s were and 2. how the nba game has changed since then

ill even throw in a lil writing prompt, what wld steph or hardens games look like if they had to play the detroit bad boy pistons under the officiating culture of the time

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:58 (seven years ago)

this knicks fan is contemplating switching to the nets, and not for the first time this year

trading away a true unicorn and the only young star worth a damn in this city in over a decade for steve francis 2.0 and two imaginary free agents

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:00 (seven years ago)

i think one of the things thats happening w tight officiating these days is that playing a super high usage game like hardens just isnt as tiring as it used to be, getting run into knocked down shoved etc will really take it out of you

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:01 (seven years ago)

so like how they play (and the refs call) curry in the playoffs

marcos smart (Spottie), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:02 (seven years ago)

why can't dolan get a residency at the house of blues and sell the fucking team already

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:03 (seven years ago)

still remember Porzingis's rookie season where the announcers were praising how much his game had developed while he had the ball and he immediately took a 3 from outer space and they were just like, "oh, no..."

closer but not thaat close really i mean u straight up just used to be able to shove guys on the perimeter full arm extension lol, btw i am in favor of letting steph do steph type stuff if thats unclear its just looking at nba stats sans context doesnt really tell u too much IMHO

so we are in agreement that pace is kind of a red herring here. for example when we look at cool stats that not a lot of other ppl have put up one way of discounting that would NOT be to say something about pace

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:07 (seven years ago)

increased pace is a noteworthy development in recent nba history IMHO, the style of play of the game has changed, those 7 seconds or less phoenix teams wld be slow now, and if youre looking at counting stats yeah theres more possessions

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:09 (seven years ago)

the way the game is officiated has changed the game certainly but idk how that would account for 7 footers being among the league leaders in assists for example, seems like the league is just prioritizing all-around skill sets more than before, players are more cognizant of what high value shots are, like 10 years ago a guy like manu's or chauncey billups' shot profile would really stand out for its polarity and now that's how m/l everyone approaches offense

just imagine jokic trying to make those passes while being manhandled by alonzo mourning, the tight officiating is the way the league has prioritized skills over brute force, which is good but just makes it not really an apples to apples comparison to previous eras

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:16 (seven years ago)

I'm gonna laugh when the knicks max out like...kemba walker and khris middleton this summer

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:17 (seven years ago)

sounds about right lol

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:17 (seven years ago)

wishing the zinger well in his new home

Sources: All-Star Kristaps Porzingis is planning to inform the Dallas Mavericks his intent is to sign the qualifying offer in restricted free agency this summer.

Dennis Smith Jr. or no Dennis Smith Jr., the Knicks grand plan is to sign Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. https://t.co/78kc4YJJTv

does kyrie even want to change teams

kd and kemba sounds like something that could feasibly happen though

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:37 (seven years ago)

lol the kyrie thing does directly affect me but if he leaves honestly it’s fine, life will go on.

still don’t think he will.

mookieproof, Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:39 (seven years ago)

trading KP away undoubtedly *decreases* the chances KD signs there right? like part of the appeal was playing with another star...and now they have to hope kyrie actually considers leaving

plus, acquiring a few competent players in DSJ, DAJ, and wes might lessen their chances at the #1 pick?

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

they could and should and probably will buy out DJ and Wes
