god I love the nba and especially that the knicks are in it truly a delicious combo

i think this is amazing for porzingis... he's leaving one of the most destructive franchises in the nba for one who built its entire offensive system around a large white oaf who can shoot

if it wasnt for zingers injury situation/risk itd be highway robbery, seems like a very reasonable risk as is

its just that 7-4 guys tend to be injured and hes already had a major one early in his career

if your explanation of why ppl are putting up stats is in part "pace" it might make sense that pace is super high these days or something which it is not

it is super high compared to all other recent nba

also there are these things called pace-adjusted stats, per-100 stats and percentages and so forth and dudes are doing new stuff there too it's wild

yes, the game has changed, confounding pedantic appeals to empiricism

it's lower than all the 70s and 80s, m/l in line with most of the 90s actually, there are numbers to support this and everything idk

i think the gap between the best players and the median is maybe a lot bigger than the past

i think one of the things thats happening w tight officiating these days is that playing a super high usage game like hardens just isnt as tiring as it used to be, getting run into knocked down shoved etc will really take it out of you

so like how they play (and the refs call) curry in the playoffs

so we are in agreement that pace is kind of a red herring here. for example when we look at cool stats that not a lot of other ppl have put up one way of discounting that would NOT be to say something about pace

increased pace is a noteworthy development in recent nba history IMHO, the style of play of the game has changed, those 7 seconds or less phoenix teams wld be slow now, and if youre looking at counting stats yeah theres more possessions

the way the game is officiated has changed the game certainly but idk how that would account for 7 footers being among the league leaders in assists for example, seems like the league is just prioritizing all-around skill sets more than before, players are more cognizant of what high value shots are, like 10 years ago a guy like manu's or chauncey billups' shot profile would really stand out for its polarity and now that's how m/l everyone approaches offense

just imagine jokic trying to make those passes while being manhandled by alonzo mourning, the tight officiating is the way the league has prioritized skills over brute force, which is good but just makes it not really an apples to apples comparison to previous eras
