it stands to reason that NBA players are just a lot better at basketball overall now than they've ever been, tbh. the game done changed

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 17:12 (seven years ago)

a lot better at offense, at least. if they were proportionally a lot better at defense as well then the numbers wouldnt change

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 17:46 (seven years ago)

i do feel like the refs call more stuff fouls now that used to just be defense but i dont have evidence

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 17:49 (seven years ago)

the rules and the way the games are called dictated a change in play style that lends itself to buffed stats . there is also been advances in training protocol and sports medicine stuff , dudes overall care more about preparation too maybe.

also just ppl realized that taking as many 3s as possible is good if youre at at all above average at shooting them which increases variability & range of results

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 17:59 (seven years ago)

funny how long it took people to figure that out .. shit the 3pt line used to be closer even

def a huge factor imo, also pace

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:30 (seven years ago)

like even u cldnt get off all those threes w/o the tight officiating which has been an evolving situation over the last ~15 years and this year they even have been calling it tighter w a point of emphasis being grabbing/holding off the ball

i am in general in favor of opening things up for the offense but i think they may have gone a little too far over the last few years and produced not that great outcomes like hardens hack the league schtick, general ridiculous levels of hoisting, and basically made it impossible to play shutdown D

also rendered the once holy concept of a triple double a cheap joke, and made the stats of today m/l incomparable to the stats of just a few years ago

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 18:37 (seven years ago)

trip dubs are pretty standard now but i still like when dudes who dont hunt for them get them. or unicorns like big honey. dennis smith junior got one last night and that seems kinda cool idk.

Fer sure. Pendulum needs to swing back a bit. Current state is def preferable to late 90s/early 00s tho.

gettin wild out there

Kristaps Porzingis left the Knicks with the impression that he prefers to be traded, league sources tell @ramonashelburne and me. Knicks are expected to commence discussions on moving him ahead of next Thursday's deadline.

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 January 2019 19:59 (seven years ago)

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:03 (seven years ago)

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:05 (seven years ago)

Sources: Lakers let Demps know one of trade scenarios would include Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Ivica Zubac, No. 1 pick, per source.

hang him shoot him and throw him in a river

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:13 (seven years ago)

i listened to nate duncan't mock trade deadline pod today and they sent a.d. to the knicks for zinger and this year's first, top-1 protected. that's better than the lakers offer.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:25 (seven years ago)

if it must be it must be xp

The Dallas Mavericks are nearing a trade to acquire Kristaps Porzingis from the New York Knicks, according to league sources

this clears a ton of money for the knicks which means they have big, big plans for the summer or, alternately, they're still just the knicks.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:42 (seven years ago)

gonna guess the latter

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:43 (seven years ago)

i can't believe i was at the game where dennis smith jr put up a triple double in the garden and then the knicks traded for him the next day

J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:43 (seven years ago)

historic truly

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:43 (seven years ago)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:45 (seven years ago)

calumy (rip van wanko), Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:45 (seven years ago)

i have some trepidations about kristaps, but dallas just got him for a guy they told the entire world they didn't want like a week ago

omar little, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:46 (seven years ago)

fun fact about "pace" btw this season is currently 17th out of 46 recorded seasons, really not all that it's made out to be imo

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:47 (seven years ago)

zinger, lee, hardaway for smith, deandre, wes matthews, and what i assume is a protected pick.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:47 (seven years ago)

god I love the nba and especially that the knicks are in it truly a delicious combo

Clay, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:47 (seven years ago)

i think this is amazing for porzingis... he's leaving one of the most destructive franchises in the nba for one who built its entire offensive system around a large white oaf who can shoot

J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:47 (seven years ago)

if it wasnt for zingers injury situation/risk itd be highway robbery, seems like a very reasonable risk as is

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:48 (seven years ago)

back then they put the ball in the hoop iirc

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:50 (seven years ago)

almost every guy in every sport who has an ACL injury comes back fully healthy... this feels like a heist by the mavs to me

those stats don't extend to the wilt/russell era in fact they start right after wilt retired

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:51 (seven years ago)

point stands

lag∞n, Thursday, 31 January 2019 20:51 (seven years ago)

knicks I guess trying to open up space for 2 max guys...to play with dennis smith junior and a 14% chance at the top lottery pick. cool idea!

the point has actually been refuted!!
