a cool down woulda been fine or a small fine like what happened with Kerr/Dray blowup but the public suspension was a deeper statement

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 17:50 (seven years ago)

yeah

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 17:52 (seven years ago)

seems like everyone agrees that kd is out the door and this was a hail mary by management to get him to stay (or the setup for a hail mary, trading dray?) which makes sense as theyre totally fucked if he leaves dynasty over so on and so forth

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 17:53 (seven years ago)

my friend who lives in the bay told me recently that one of his good friends is a waiter at a place frequented by dubs players, and that once KD and dray were both there at the same time and sat at opposite ends of the restaurant and didn't so much as say hi to each other.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 17:55 (seven years ago)

losing them both is obv the worst case and now thats possible

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 17:55 (seven years ago)

I really do wonder what happened behind closed doors and if dray escalated things even more than what we saw on the bench, that could definitely help explain things a little

what spottie said also seems true, it’s unlikely dray was looking to shoot that, more likely he was hoping KD would run with him so he could potentially find him for the shot, the converse where KD gets double teamed and maybe has to pass to dray for the shot is def less appetizing

k3vin k., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 17:55 (seven years ago)

maybe im being too sanguine about this but i feel like this is prob an exceptionally public manifestation of a dynamic that the warriors have mostly accepted bcuz they win titles, and if KD leaves (which he prob will) it will be bcuz he's bored and not bcuz draymond is an asshole

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 17:59 (seven years ago)

i think that's otm

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:00 (seven years ago)

yeah sounds about right

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:00 (seven years ago)

i still think he is not sure what he wants or is gonna do, so this type of thing may nudge him a way.

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:01 (seven years ago)

draymond is still amazing imo even tho his shot has cratered... he always shows up in the playoffs which is really all that matters for this team. that said the warriors have him off their books when he's 30 and i'd be pretty concerned about his next contract unless he was willing to forego the max, which doesn't seem likely.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:02 (seven years ago)

tho id say its because kds bored and everyone in the world gave him shit for being a bandwagon rider xp

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:02 (seven years ago)

yeah def

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:03 (seven years ago)

like strauss speculated, doesnt seem like KD's achieved whatever validation he was looking for in joining the warriors

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:03 (seven years ago)

truly the fully bloom of social media is the common man fn w a superstar athletes head

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:04 (seven years ago)

the dynamic of on some nights being the third guy on a superteam (on those nights when Klay is going off) might be a little tough for him, KD doesn't have the same personality as other players at his level in terms of taking charge and he is a latecomer to the team where it would be the most difficult for him to assert himself (aside from the Lakers.)

yeah idk i wldnt bet on him showing up this year, tho i also wldnt bet against it, little injuries piling up is how guys who play with superhuman effort start to slow down

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:06 (seven years ago)

the moral of the story is... curry needs to never be hurt and needs to be with the team at all times if he is.

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:07 (seven years ago)

yeah it's interesting. i mean, if his goal was to experience the personal satisfaction of winning an nba championship then he's gotten that. but if he was out for public validation from the basketball watching public or to burnish his "legacy" that was never going to happen.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:07 (seven years ago)

he needs to go to the knicks average 37-11 and lose in the second round, its the only thing that will soothe his troubled soul

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:09 (seven years ago)

KD with the Warriors also reminds of me LeBron's Heat era, except LeBron was the clear-cut leader and he seemingly relished those years. The similarity is in the lack of validation, once LeBron won a title in Cleveland he seemed to finally achieve it.

omar little, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:12 (seven years ago)

i bet KD looked at bron and was like "yeah ppl will give me shit for going to the warriors but once i leave w/ all these titles i'll be loved again" but it doesn't feel like that will be the case

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:12 (seven years ago)

goon you're really low on dray. he is still in his prime its not like hes in a ben wallace to chicago type of timeframe quite yet. agree with jordan about major concerns when the contract is up but dude is still a crazy good player and should be for a couple more seasons. his shot fell off once luke's tenure as head coach came to an end, his great shooting was a blip.

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:13 (seven years ago)

i feel like bron had kinda won ppl over even before the cleveland title... he's just broadly likable in a way KD isn't

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:13 (seven years ago)

kd should go to like any of the 25 teams that don't have a better player than him i dont care

ciderpress, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:14 (seven years ago)

w bron it was like he 'learned his lesson' when they lost the first title and people were excited to cheer against him after that no one cared any more

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:15 (seven years ago)

yeah i mean im not sure about how good dray still is i just think theres a serious possibility for an early decline there, but he cld also be a real contributor for years to come, i do think his days as an absolute night in night out force of nature on D are prob over xp

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:15 (seven years ago)

also his decline from bad shooter to guy who passes up the most open looks hinders his ability to make plays

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:18 (seven years ago)

oh he still chucks.

he could settle into a shawn marion type of role late career and help title contenders with hussle and smarts

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:19 (seven years ago)

yeah the thing he has going for him is hes a basketball genius which ages well

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:20 (seven years ago)

the thing i dont get is hes so much better when he doesnt bend his knees an insane amount on his jumper but he just hasnt made that seemingly simple correction

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:21 (seven years ago)

hard to change years and years of a habit

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:22 (seven years ago)

if anything his shot looks worse than it ever has its just totally uncoordinated, i wonder if its one of those bad shot doctoring situations that lead guys to overthink things

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:23 (seven years ago)

dray's unnaturally good at defending at the 3 point line and holding up in the post, i feel like he still has ~4 more years left of being better than most nba players at the combination of those two things

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:24 (seven years ago)

i bet KD looked at bron and was like "yeah ppl will give me shit for going to the warriors but once i leave w/ all these titles i'll be loved again" but it doesn't feel like that will be the case

the one way KD could do something like this would be to return to the Thunder

its probably his best move lmao

Spottie, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:46 (seven years ago)

KD's situation really doesn't feel comparable to LeBron's. What LeBron did was like the forming of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, while KD would be like, I dunno, Hendrix deciding to join Led Zeppelin

frogbs, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 18:56 (seven years ago)

i'm mad that i understand that analogy perfectly

Greta Van Fleek (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:00 (seven years ago)

Who is Jimmy Page in this scenario... Klay? Is Draymond Robert Plant?

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:23 (seven years ago)

cmon now klay is obvisously jpj

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:26 (seven years ago)

dray is bonham

lag∞n, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)

BREAKING: Jimi Hendrix joins Led Zeppelin. Fans of Emerson, Lake and Palmer immediately make demands to break up Led Zeppelin.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:42 (seven years ago)

led zeppelin broke up for basketball reasons

ciderpress, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 19:46 (seven years ago)

Kerr = Jimmy Page
Steph = Robert Plant
Klay = JPJ
Dray = Bonham
Joe Lacob = Peter Grant
Iggie = Richard Cole

Greta Van Fleek (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 20:30 (seven years ago)

Wade is definitely Greg Lake

frogbs, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 20:32 (seven years ago)

it's not entirely fair to KD bcuz the warriors looked broken and rather pathetic in the finals before he joined them, and in the 2017 finals i don't think they beat the cavs without him. but this is what he gets for even trying to play this game in the first place.

Ugh that is some vague-posting that sounds like the stuff my kid’s AAU coach is always posting.
