my working theory right now is that the raptors are very good

Kyrie Irving on Murray’s last second 3:

“What kind of competitor wouldn’t it bother? I don’t want to make a big deal out of it...congratulations to him on having 48 points...but the ball deserves to go in the crowd after a bullshit move like that. So I threw it in the crowd.”

how are ILH’s resident celtics fans holding up after that devastating loss last night

k3vin k., Tuesday, 6 November 2018 15:27 (seven years ago)

Lagoon had to log off for good

Machine Gunk Jelly (Spottie), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 15:41 (seven years ago)

im hungry and the cafeteria doesn't open for another 45, otherwise doing all right

ciderpress, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 15:47 (seven years ago)

nuggets are my 2nd fav team though anyway

ciderpress, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 15:48 (seven years ago)

i was trying to figure out why the celtics offense is so bad (27th in o-rating) so i started researching. as i suspected, they're 29th in FTA and FT% which is not good. but 28th in both is....the raptors (3rd in o-rating).

when you look further the celtics and raptors have extremely similar offensive profiles except the raptors shoot 5-6% better on 2-pt shots. the celtics need to take better 2s or at least take 2s that give them a chance to get to the line.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 15:57 (seven years ago)

don't really care about losing to denver, they were playing ok and then murray got screaming hot. it happens. ppl need to learn to guard his up-and-under though.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:01 (seven years ago)

Nuggets are good. I don’t think this should’ve been a surprise.

Hayward continues to chew minutes. 8 points in 28 minutes. Jaylen scored 15 in 29. I wonder when Boston fans start to lose their shit over Hayward.

Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:15 (seven years ago)

well he's not gonna put up 20ppg on this team if that's what he did as a #1 scoring option

the damn game was blacked out! lol

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:29 (seven years ago)

If (too early to speculate but I’ll do it anyway) Hayward doesn’t return to all star level, that puts a massive spanner in the Celtics’ build towards the chip. He’ll definitely be opting into the $34m 2020/21 year if so.

Hot take. I think if he doesn’t pick up by seasons end we’ll see Ainge trade Hayward for a star with one year left that has no intentions to sign another deal with their current team (next years Jimmy Butler if you will). If they can’t entice the star to stay long term, at least they can afford to pay their young guns.

I like Poeltls (fionnland), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:29 (seven years ago)

and it was too late to watch on licit streaming went to watch on dvr and got the bad news gdamn

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:30 (seven years ago)

Also with Westbrook injury I feel Thunder will now struggle to playoffs

I like Poeltls (fionnland), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:31 (seven years ago)

im not worried about the celtics but also it has not been too fun to watch them so far

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:31 (seven years ago)

hayward is good btw hes actually the type of star you want on a stacked team cause he doesnt need the ball in his hands is more of a cutter screener etc type score can defend multiple positions rebound and so forth, obvs after missing a year its gonna take him a min to get up to speed/gel w da team

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:35 (seven years ago)

yeah I’m not too worried about the celtics, they have tons of dudes and brother brad will figure it out. #1 seed is not looking too great tho

otoh aside from last night they are kind of torture to watch

k3vin k., Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:41 (seven years ago)

they really have not been consistently "clicking"

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:42 (seven years ago)

really ultimately you want the offense running through kyrie and al but brad isnt going to take that approach for the whole season because he wants to keep those guys fresh and get the whole team dialed so its kinda a trick to get the whole thing humming, not sure thats really the cause of their current struggles but its part of the puzzle

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:45 (seven years ago)

but on the other hand when they have clicked its pretty obvious what that looks like, lots of driving and kicking attacking on the break swinging the ball after it hits the paint etc, so i think theyll get there its not brain science to be good when u have their level of talent

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:48 (seven years ago)

i think they are playing it right in boston. give gordo his minutes and let him get back over time. he should be looking like himself by the end of the year. the mental hurdles after an injury like that are what take the most time to clear. there was bound to be some regression with Taytum, Brown and Rozier, they all punched above their weight class last year and have to figure out their normal roles now. They have regressed a little too far and it should average out soon enough. We know brother brad is a great coach but now we will see how he does with balancing egos/minutes/rotations with a stacked squad. If you're going to struggle, way better to do it at the beginning of the season.

Machine Gunk Jelly (Spottie), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:49 (seven years ago)

yeah their young guns def experiencing some sophomore blues via early success/high expectations and need to chill and let the game come to them in a secondary role/flex when the stars sit

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:51 (seven years ago)

of course when the stars sit u have to deal with marcus morris hitting 100% of his shots

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:52 (seven years ago)

ha im sure that trend will hold

Machine Gunk Jelly (Spottie), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 17:02 (seven years ago)

if most of their problem is bad 2-pt shots at least that's easy to clean up through better habits. tatum in particular really needs to start attacking the paint more.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 17:03 (seven years ago)

someone needs to sit him down and tell him kobe is bad actually

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 17:04 (seven years ago)

The young dudes are (mildly) regressing but they are still stupid good! It’s annoying!

I would love to see Jaylen Brown as a first or second option on a team. They wouldn’t be a championship team (or likely even a good playoff team) but they would be fun to watch. Regardless of my hatred of the Celtics, I RSVPed to some Harvard bullshit he’ll be at because I’m a fanboy.

Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 17:16 (seven years ago)

It’s also annoying that most people agree (including the people above) that the regression is because of bad decision making rather than lack of fitness or skill (I never feel confident making that kind of judgement about young players). They are both obviously super coachable and Uncle Brad will likely work that shit out.

Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 17:18 (seven years ago)

Yeah. I’m not worried. I’d even claim Hayward is super good. I read in that Lowe piece that Beale was adamant that he’s fine after getting destroyed by him in 1-on-1 games over the summer. The skill he showed on a daily basis before the signing was stupid good. I was mostly reacting to the surprisingly quiet Celtics fan (my wife included who I’d described as “annoyed” rather than her usual “trade him immediately reactions”).

Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 17:22 (seven years ago)

yeah kobe may have broken tatum he's been a ball stopper so far

ciderpress, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 17:26 (seven years ago)

Meanwhile, Pistons lost to a Miami team without Whiteside. It was kind of fun since it let Drummond go for one of his stupid box score games (25 points and 24 rebounds). I’ve joined the Pistons fans that just hope a good team picks him up so he can win something (also known as Barry Sanders syndrome).

we were talking about this last week, it's very hard for them to do so bc they gave every player on their team a 1 billion dollar contract

they should give teams 1 billion dollars to pay them to leave, that team needs to be cleansed with fire

i like the concept of dwight as the basketball grim reaper, mystically showing up on teams to herald the end of their contention window
