i think porter is not that good, players who cant create at all are just not that valuable, pure 3nd guys are worth closer to the midlevel than the max, IMHO

plus the number of guys who can hit a 3 these days is basically everyone

there's not very many 50/40/80 guys. he shot over 43% the last two seasons from 3. that's elite. he should be shooting 7 per game. he's never had a good coach, might have something to do with it.

yeah my point was that you can't be paying people big contracts that represent their actual value, which is what porter (and wall) has. in order to get enough talent to contend within the limitations of the cap you need to get the guys that are so good that you can't pay them what they're worth because the max prevents it.

or in the rarer Celtics case find lots of guys who will outplay their perceived value in your system or outplay their rookie contracts

i guess they could also just take discounts like kd that's the problem with the cap as a competitive balance tool is it assumes the difference between making 20m and 30m matters to everyone when it's actually meaningless in a practical sense

there's a lot of factors but potentially yes. porter is obv overpaid but he is an elite shooter, I havent watched them enough to know if he just doesnt have the motor to be a 20 ppg player. maybe he just hates playing with wall.

would like to see him on a diff team with a diff coach

joe ingles or even klay dont do that and they are elite shooters. mos tof the guys on that list are catch and shoot guys

i'm thinking i probably don't consider most catch and shoot guys to be elite shooters because the shots the take aren't very hard

yeah it's perhaps one of the finest examples of unintended consequences

not only is it not incentivizing teams to keep their stars but it's actually in some cases incentivizing them to *not* keep them i.e. cousins in sacramento

yeah u gotta be able to get looks to make shots and porter just isnt good like that, john wall has fwiw consistently ranked out as the best pg at creating open 3s for his teammates and porter still only puts up 4 3s a game, hes much closer to al horford than klay

naw an only somewhat dumb team under the right circumstances is totally capable of talking themselves into it

particularly if they can unload some of their own bad contracts
