For at least the last two CBAs, the one thing a mid-market or small-market team cannot afford to do is badly overpaying one of your high draft picks just to keep him from jumping ship, in the hope he'll finally deliver on the highest hopes you had when you picked him on draft day. Seems like a GM needs to be ruthlessly objective as those lottery pick rookie contracts expire.
