at least the basketball one hasn't had the same coach and same star player for that entire run...wait

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 June 2018 04:45 (five years ago) link

to be fair the spurs are like the lawful good to patriots chaotic evil, so finding similarities in spirit is hard despite their similarities in numbers on paper

21st savagery fox (m bison), Thursday, 7 June 2018 04:46 (five years ago) link

patriots are prob neutral evil imo

Clay, Thursday, 7 June 2018 04:47 (five years ago) link

21st savagery fox (m bison), Thursday, 7 June 2018 04:49 (five years ago) link

yeah but they're classic do whatever i can to win w/ no respect for the odds types. they're not 'just watch the world burn' types. that might be, idk, pete carroll? i do not know a whole lot about football anymore!

bball chaotic evil would be, uhh, isaiah GMing the knicks?

Clay, Thursday, 7 June 2018 04:52 (five years ago) link

that's because football is bad, except for the eagles, who are good

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 June 2018 04:58 (five years ago) link

I cannot wait to start off the year yelling at the refs like a hobo on bath salts, so when i get in the playoffs they say “oh it’s just Channing”

I thought he was talking about Bron til I read the comments.

Fetchboy, Thursday, 7 June 2018 07:08 (five years ago) link

bron is more of a whiner than a yeller

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 7 June 2018 11:59 (five years ago) link

series has been way closer than i thought itd be but the cavs have still failed to win one game oh well

Very cool of LeBron to drop these first 3 games to add more drama to his upcoming 4-3 series win.

when time becomes a loop

gritty tigger reboot (agent hibachi), Thursday, 7 June 2018 15:30 (five years ago) link

few dynasties lol this is a sport where the Celtics won 11 straight the lakers won five in a decade only really interrupted by a Celtics mini dynasty the bulls won 3+3 with a little break that barely counts the spurs dominated nearly an entirely decade and now the warriors will have won 3 out of 4 and only lost the one due to a superhuman effort from the 1 or 2 player of all time

gritty tigger reboot (agent hibachi), Thursday, 7 June 2018 15:33 (five years ago) link

^high praise for Kyrie

ToTN alert

"Tonight will be tough," said James, who scored 33 and rolled his right ankle in the first half. "Tomorrow I'll replay some plays and some moments and things of that nature.

still mad that it's not our board description

ciderpress, Thursday, 7 June 2018 17:30 (five years ago) link

anyone else notice lebron switching out from guarding KD pretty much the whole 4th? seemed like a few time a warrior player would just kinda run by kd and not even bother to actually screen and they would still switch anyway.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Thursday, 7 June 2018 17:49 (five years ago) link

teams switch with almost no provocation these days i dont quite understand it, maybe its just for simplicities sake

sprout god (lag∞n), Thursday, 7 June 2018 17:58 (five years ago) link

yeah i don’t really get it either

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 June 2018 18:08 (five years ago) link

feel like it makes sense if you have a super switchy team a la the dubs or even the rockets, but the cavs....

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 June 2018 18:09 (five years ago) link

this happened in the rockets series too and i didn't get it. just like, completely perfunctory screens to trigger switches. players on both teams just like... openly going thru the motions as fi there's no choice in the matter?

J0rdan S., Thursday, 7 June 2018 18:14 (five years ago) link

I'm sure they're coached to just switch and conserve energy

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 June 2018 18:19 (five years ago) link

cavs are definitely coached to switch everything because they're not capable of doing anything more nuanced.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 7 June 2018 18:31 (five years ago) link

the warriors did this in game 1 and it turned into curry guarding lbj on like 75% of the plays. games 2-3 dray and kd have been fighting through it and it looks pretty effortless. also kd picking up bron at 3/4 court every once in a while is smart, making him work the whole game.

given all the advances in NBA defenses over last 10 yrs or so, it is befuddling that they'd just roll over to what the offense wants to do so often

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 June 2018 20:20 (five years ago) link

maybe that's what the defense wants to do!

k3vin k., Thursday, 7 June 2018 20:22 (five years ago) link

yeah I guess I'd like to hear from coaches on why it's preferable to alternatives. Gotta think there'll be a sea change on that part of defense philosophy.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 June 2018 20:26 (five years ago) link

Are you 90?

The comparison I made, the Patriots, have been the favorite to win the Super Bowl in 12 of the past 16 seasons. That’s stupid.

Allen (etaeoe), Thursday, 7 June 2018 23:45 (five years ago) link

They've only been pre-season favorites 8 times since 2001.

And I’ll never apologize for my takes. I’ll take them to the grave.

his performance in game 6 of the houston series was magical. even beyond his shooting he seemed to be lifting the collective spirits of the whole team by just being bouncy and positive. truly a dude living his best life.
