it seems like the rockets have 1 idea

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 May 2018 01:10 (six years ago) link

well they're 9/21 in the restricted area tonight, not sure you can coach that

k3vin k., Monday, 21 May 2018 01:12 (six years ago) link

they've missed some bunnies, i also think an offense predicated on getting to the rim in one on one situations is also one predicated on getting fouls and that seems like a bad idea on the road in the playoffs vs a team like the warriors

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 May 2018 01:19 (six years ago) link

The roku NBA app is wild. Watching the game from 4 different camera angles at the same time.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 21 May 2018 01:19 (six years ago) link

am i the only one who thinks steph has been mostly fine on defense in this series?

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 May 2018 01:20 (six years ago) link

game over

k3vin k., Monday, 21 May 2018 01:22 (six years ago) link

That got ugly fast.

Jeff, Monday, 21 May 2018 01:22 (six years ago) link

Pretty rough sequence

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 21 May 2018 01:24 (six years ago) link

seems pretty clear that when ariza/tucker/gordon play like this the rockets basically have no chance

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 May 2018 01:26 (six years ago) link

jesus durant just did a crossover pull up jumper and the ball and... it was like there was no net in the rim? i've never seen that

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 May 2018 01:27 (six years ago) link

Curry smh

are we gonna ever get a close game in this series?

, Monday, 21 May 2018 14:11 (six years ago) link

Was wondering the same thing. Can someone with more NBA knowledge than me explain why these games are so lopsided regardless of who wins?

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 21 May 2018 14:29 (six years ago) link

Don't know if I have more NBA knowledge than you but read somewhere that emphasis on 3's makes for more lopsided scorelines and found it pretty convincing.

If a team is hot from 3 point range and their opponent happens not to be, they're essentially getting 50% more value for a larger percentage of their shots and that spirals into blowouts pretty easily.

tsrobodo, Monday, 21 May 2018 14:41 (six years ago) link

thats true but the average score should still be close so we're just rolling poorly

ciderpress, Monday, 21 May 2018 14:45 (six years ago) link

my response to Moodles would be that sometimes the GSW just don't feel like blowing you out by 40

average scores won't change but the distribution might be wider. i.e. higher variance

k3vin k., Monday, 21 May 2018 15:23 (six years ago) link

there is also the GSW-specific factor of turning it on when they feel like it that rip van wanko mentioned lol

k3vin k., Monday, 21 May 2018 15:23 (six years ago) link

def 3s are increasing variance, all 3 eastern conf games have been blowouts too, maybe some other style of play type things are having the same effect too idk

sprout god (lag∞n), Monday, 21 May 2018 15:28 (six years ago) link

increased pace shd decrease variance for roughly even matched teams, but also if one team is just whipping butt all game then it gives them more opportunity to run up the score

sprout god (lag∞n), Monday, 21 May 2018 15:29 (six years ago) link

it seems like coaching is becoming more important maybe the game to game tactical counters are a bigger deal than they used to be

yeah i think this has a lot to do with it. lebron modulates constantly too. he basically didn't try in game 1 and then really eased off the gas in game 2 for whatever reason after the first quarter.

J0rdan S., Monday, 21 May 2018 16:15 (six years ago) link

my response to Moodles would be that sometimes the GSW just don't /feel/ like blowing you out by 40

this is correct

Clay, Monday, 21 May 2018 16:16 (six years ago) link

this is just how the warriors lose in the playoffs. been this way for a few years now. last night didnt really have the feel of a 40 pt blowout but the scrubs were lights out too and just kept adding to it, think quinn cook was perfect from the field.

CP has not been good this series and looks injured.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Monday, 21 May 2018 16:19 (six years ago) link

yeah hes not right

sprout god (lag∞n), Monday, 21 May 2018 16:21 (six years ago) link

he is in an unnatural place, the conference finals

sprout god (lag∞n), Monday, 21 May 2018 16:24 (six years ago) link

completely fine with being the last one to let it go, such is my disdain

Clay, Monday, 21 May 2018 16:26 (six years ago) link

xps
ah yeah higher variance was the phrase I was dancing around but couldn't remember

tsrobodo, Monday, 21 May 2018 16:32 (six years ago) link

I think chris has looked fine, just has been playing inconsistent. he was arguably the best non-KD player on the floor in game 2. and his defense has been mostly solid, spectacular at times

k3vin k., Monday, 21 May 2018 18:30 (six years ago) link

he was also slumping pretty hard at the end of the season, he might be running out of gas a little

k3vin k., Monday, 21 May 2018 18:31 (six years ago) link

otm

Winning 60 games in the NBA is dicey unless your stars can keep their legs.

Joe Gargan (dandydonweiner), Monday, 21 May 2018 18:51 (six years ago) link

seems like he barely played all season

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Monday, 21 May 2018 19:06 (six years ago) link

he's been getting absolutely lit up on defense, and has been kinda lazy. he's masked it with a few good plays here or there (see his klay swat and save last night) but overall hes getting cooked.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Monday, 21 May 2018 19:07 (six years ago) link

CP was just ok in game 2. their role players won that game.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Monday, 21 May 2018 19:11 (six years ago) link

haha didnt even see this in real time last night

CP3 trying to get the refs to give him a call. Leaves him on the ground, can’t rotate back to his man and this shot was Curry’s first triple of the game pic.twitter.com/Az1iOlPTxp
