did AI get the league to remove the hand check rules too?

, Thursday, 29 March 2018 14:22 (eight years ago)

him getting to the rack so consistently in a. that super physical era while b. being so slight and c. on a team with no other threats is an underrated accomplishment

lag∞n, Thursday, 29 March 2018 16:18 (eight years ago)

always thought pound for pound, inch for inch, he was the best I've ever seen

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 29 March 2018 16:50 (eight years ago)

Hand check rule changed in 2004 so not directly an AI thing.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 29 March 2018 17:17 (eight years ago)

that game 1 win in the 2001 finals against the Shaq/Kobe Lakers was one of the best things I've ever seen.

omar little, Thursday, 29 March 2018 17:21 (eight years ago)

greatest game i've ever seen (well listened to on a tiny contraband radio but still)

Mordy, Thursday, 29 March 2018 18:15 (eight years ago)

Yeah on a size adjusted basis ai is like almost indisputably one of the best players ever

Once in a while I think about what he could do if you teleported him into today, p sure he would lead the league in scoring and it wouldn’t be close

gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Thursday, 29 March 2018 19:06 (eight years ago)

I mean he did it four times anyway (!!!) in a hand check era and with no talent around him, bet he could average 40 now

gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Thursday, 29 March 2018 19:07 (eight years ago)

i love how manu is a. not euro and b. not the 1st nba player to have the euro step in his arsenal but is none the less c. undisputedly the euro step godfather

All hilarious

I also have very specific memories of highlight packages breaking down his eurostep in slow mo and explaining how it works and how it’s not a travel popping up every time there was a big game especially in the playoffs the first few years of manus prominence

gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Thursday, 29 March 2018 19:09 (eight years ago)

but he was a subpar 3pt shooter and that could limit is scoring in a post-Thibs defensive schemes era

crazy

lag∞n, Thursday, 29 March 2018 20:25 (eight years ago)

wonder if the college payola has dried with all this legal/media exposure

lag∞n, Thursday, 29 March 2018 20:25 (eight years ago)

some kids/families may not need/want it and/or want to play it straight maybe?

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Thursday, 29 March 2018 20:28 (eight years ago)

yeah i guess if you were strictly focusing on basketball development the g league wld be the way to go

lag∞n, Thursday, 29 March 2018 20:29 (eight years ago)

also once u do that i guess u have access to getting money via signing with an agent/sneaker company/etc

lag∞n, Thursday, 29 March 2018 20:30 (eight years ago)

presumably this will shuffle some big coaching talent to the g league pr quick

Clay, Thursday, 29 March 2018 20:31 (eight years ago)

xp plus a basic g league salary. was listening to the open floor pod and ben golliver brought up some good points. basically the g league competition is much better than college (like dudes with fully formed bodies, etc) so these top prospects might just kind of blend in and may not dominate/stand out like they could in college + there's no exposure as currently constructed. I think this is a cool first step but they need to bring a lot more to the table if they are gonna convince kids to skip the opportunities that come from college ball.

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Thursday, 29 March 2018 20:35 (eight years ago)

but if the nba is gonna strike there's never been a better time

they call me melo gelo (Spottie), Thursday, 29 March 2018 20:35 (eight years ago)

yeah suspect itll end up resembling a true minor league, like the nba will let teams draft hs kids again and they can use the g league to develop them if theyre not ready for the bigs

Sixers announce Joel Embiid will undergo surgery to repair an orbital fracture in his left eye. Timetable TBD.

— Zach Lowe (@ZachLowe_NBA) March 29, 2018

Pending the results of surgery, Embiid could return to play in 2-4 weeks, per league source. First round obviously in some jeopardy.

sixers cooked if joel doesnt play in the 1st round
