to compare him to the other GOAT, i feel like when MJ's Bulls were going through the EC playoffs the ECFs would often feel like a Finals. Those Knicks and Pacers teams were scary as fuck imo.

depends who you read. espn reporting tonight that he has the medical go-ahead but that kawhi is staying cautious bc he may be worried about re-aggravating it in advance of the supermax contract he is eligible. local beat writer says he's trying to rehab in time to start playing by next month. idk.

kawhi's mind has always been guarded and therefore somewhat mysterious. I think he's earned the right to handle this injury however he thinks best for himself.

the correct number of teams to make a sport playoff is 1/3rd of the league imho, but sometimes its not possible because of scheduling and maths

seems clear that they need to do *something* with the playoff bubble teams though not sure it's this exactly. simmons was going through his play-in tournament idea on a pod recently and was proposing some outside compensation for the winner--like a guaranteed high second-round pick and a trade exception for the next season. they would never do it but i think ideas like that would motivate some teams more than a chance to just be the 8 seed.

the "16-teams-with-no-regard-for-conference" thing sounds great, but a better solution to this problem would be for the Eastern Conference to just get its shit together

this year, anyway, it doesn't feel like there is such a gap in power between the two conferences. the two best teams are in the West, yes, but besides maybe the Thunder, I think the East's 3-8 is very comparable to the West's lower tier of playoff contenders.

thing is even if both conferences were similarly competent just on a random distribution 50% of the season the two best teams will be in the same conference, which to me is the biggest issue, i want the best teams to have a shot to play against each other in the finals

there is definitely a solid gap, but the size of the gap is always obscured by the fact that the west teams have to play against each other more often and vice versa
