clarkson is much better than ball

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 03:21 (eight years ago)

who the fuck is alex caruso??

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 October 2017 03:24 (eight years ago)

ball has made some nice early passes to get into the offense but that's it.

i don't really have thoughts on clarkson but i love how all nba watchers seem to hate him despite his decent stats.

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 October 2017 03:25 (eight years ago)

they had him last year i think he came from the d league xp

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 03:27 (eight years ago)

Clarkson is great considering where he was drafted. Found money. He is a future 6th man of the year candidate imo.

Lakers bench unit is better than the starters

Spottie, Friday, 20 October 2017 03:32 (eight years ago)

someone needed to immediately punk lonzo, thankfully pat was up to the task

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 October 2017 03:33 (eight years ago)

Couldn’t think up a better pairing for him opening night

Spottie, Friday, 20 October 2017 03:34 (eight years ago)

lonzo padding his rebound stats

mookieproof, Friday, 20 October 2017 04:11 (eight years ago)

The Ingram jumper looks BROKE

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 October 2017 04:49 (eight years ago)

he may end up being one of those guys who looks like he was made to play basketball but just doesnt have the feel

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 04:50 (eight years ago)

Lauri > Lonzo

you are juror number 144 and we will excuse you (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 20 October 2017 04:52 (eight years ago)

i think a lot of players are gonna wanna son lonzo

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 October 2017 05:20 (eight years ago)

It seems like a James Johnson flagrant foul on Lonzo is better than even money

Beverley on Lonzo Ball: “I told him after the game, due to all the rifraff his dad brings he’s going to get a lot of people coming at him."

— Kurt Helin (@basketballtalk) October 20, 2017

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 05:58 (eight years ago)

That reminds me of that story about jayson williams repeatedly committing hard fouls on Brent Barry. Brent asked why he kept doing it and Williams said “sorry man, I just hate your dad.” And Barry replied “I hate him too!”

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 20 October 2017 06:37 (eight years ago)

only watched a little last night but ball looked fine to me. obv being matched up against pat bev is gonna make anyone look worse

k3vin k., Friday, 20 October 2017 13:12 (eight years ago)

"ricky rubio w/ a decent shot" still seems like a highly likely lonzo outcome to me

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 October 2017 13:42 (eight years ago)

i didn't get the kidd comparisons when lonzo was in college but i think he's gonna have a harder time scoring than he did in college so i see it now. a lot of 16-12-11 stat lines in his future it looks like

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 October 2017 13:45 (eight years ago)

does he have a decent shot? can he rack up the assists if he cant beat his man off the dribble?

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 14:40 (eight years ago)

i feel like his shot will be fine

k3vin k., Friday, 20 October 2017 14:41 (eight years ago)

why does everyone keep saying thaaat

https://i.imgur.com/mJNglWv.png

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 14:42 (eight years ago)

like even if he can hit a decent percentage his shot will never be fine because his deranged form limits the types of shots he can take so severely

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 14:43 (eight years ago)

idk man it goes in

k3vin k., Friday, 20 October 2017 14:44 (eight years ago)

there is not a lot of evidence of that! also see my second point

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 14:45 (eight years ago)

idk i don't really read too deeply of the college prospect literature but i sort of feel like the track record for 18 year old freshmen who shoot .550/.412/.673 has to be pretty good.

k3vin k., Friday, 20 October 2017 14:55 (eight years ago)

yeah i mean if thats all youve got to go on

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 14:58 (eight years ago)

buut ucla basically ran people off the court ball was getting a ton of transition layups and wide open threes, which doesnt seem like a plan in the nba, basically unanimous amongst scouts that he struggled to generate offense in the halfcourt, in college

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 15:00 (eight years ago)

wait .673?

ciderpress, Friday, 20 October 2017 15:03 (eight years ago)

iirc UCLA tried to change lonzo's shot bcuz he has trouble getting it off while off the dribble, especially going in one direction, i forget which. lavar blew up at steve alford and they scrapped it. so i don't think his shot is perfect or fine, just that i'm confident he'll be able to hit open jumpers at an acceptable clip which is far more than ricky rubio can do, to bring it back to the point.

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 October 2017 15:03 (eight years ago)

here are my thoughts on lonzo's shot:

1) he seems like someone who has practiced specific shots but has not really worked on general shotmaking. he's got the stepback 3 and the open 3 at least. i bet he'll make the open 3 at a decent clip.

2) related to lack of shotmaking, he's going to take a lot of weird floaters and stuff because i don't think he can line up his jumper on the move.

3) he bricked two free throws last night and both appeared to have sidespin on them, which is...not what you want.

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 October 2017 15:05 (eight years ago)

per espn stats the lakers averaged .48 points/possession when beverley guarded lonzo last night

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 October 2017 15:07 (eight years ago)

teenage rookie guards tend to be very bad iirc, i'm sure he'll struggle a fair bit

k3vin k., Friday, 20 October 2017 15:09 (eight years ago)

in a league where point guards are relied on so heavily to break down their defender and increasingly to generate and hit quality 3s off the dribble im just not sure how this guy who has trouble beating his own man much less penetrating the second level of D and who has a shot that he cant take going left unless he steps way back fits in, also its kinda weird that everyone is just accepting the it goes in story abt that jumper after 200 college attempts, he may be some sort of basketball genius but how much is that worth if you dont have the fundamental skills to express yr genius, dangelo russell put up 30 in his first game btw

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 15:10 (eight years ago)

yeah this too

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 15:11 (eight years ago)

kinda funny how both fultz and ball put up great numbers from 3 but sucked from the line, suspect their 3 percentages will turn out to be a least partially fools gold

lag∞n, Friday, 20 October 2017 15:13 (eight years ago)

UCLA had great spacing but lonzo got the rim in college. he doesn't look like a great one on one player obv but i still think he should be pretty good as a high pick and roll player. as long as guys can't go under picks on him every play (i.e. can he hit moderately deep wide open threes) i think things will mostly lock into place for him given his passing ability.

i do wonder if the NBA three point revolution means that the old correlation between FT% and true shooting ability will be less strong if every kid coming out of high school now is shooting 100 three pointers a day in practice or whatever.

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 October 2017 15:24 (eight years ago)

this is rly good https://www.si.com/nba/2017/10/20/lonzo-ball-lakers-debut-patrick-beverley-clippers

J0rdan S., Friday, 20 October 2017 15:28 (eight years ago)

i just went through the box scores of all the games ball has played as a pro summer/pre/regular season and hes currently 14 for 57 from three or 24%, he took 194 total threes in his college career
