can't wait to see lebron smack kyrie down tbh it will be epic and fun. the east needs this tbh
― marcos, Thursday, 12 October 2017 19:51 (eight years ago)
imo cleveland is the better sports town but but kyrie is right that you can go into downtown cleveland at night and certainly *some* things are happening but it is not downtown boston at night. though a new yorker would say the same thing about going into downtown boston at night - *some* things are happening, i guess...
― marcos, Thursday, 12 October 2017 19:53 (eight years ago)
imo cleveland is the better sports town

boston sports = hateable teams, obnoxious fans. oh look tom brady *farts*
Cs only the really likeable franchise there
― marcos, Thursday, 12 October 2017 20:13 (eight years ago)
sorry im just fuckin with you all
this is a good sports town for real though
― marcos, Thursday, 12 October 2017 20:14 (eight years ago)
lol "good sports town" usually assumes one likes the sports teams in that town.
CLE seems like a fine sports town barring the racist-name baseball team, the crazy owner of the basketball team, and the war crime of a football team.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 12 October 2017 20:16 (eight years ago)
lol that is a fair assessment

lol cad
― Spottie, Thursday, 12 October 2017 20:24 (eight years ago)
excited for an actual possible rivalry in the east tho
the thing about being a cleveland sports fan that i think is really qualitatively different from being a fan in the historically great sports cities is that we are a perpetual underdog, year after year, no matter how good the team is, because it's *cleveland* and it will never be new york or boston or chicago, we don't really win titles so when you do win a title or get *that close* to winning one there is a level of drama and obsession and idk just sheer *weight* of this event that binds the whole city together and while i know that kind of stuff exists for all sports fans in all cities i do suspect that it is possibly more intense here than in cities that have a bunch of championship-winning franchises all the time.
― marcos, Thursday, 12 October 2017 20:39 (eight years ago)
yeah those kinda fanbases make for the most intense and loyal.
― Spottie, Thursday, 12 October 2017 20:40 (eight years ago)
ppl forget boston was a tragic sports city not that long ago aka my childhood, sox were the original cursed team, pats were utterly pitiful at every level, vague memories of larry bird not withstanding celtics were awful, i have no idea about hockey
the red sox situation in particular is very key to understanding boston sports madness
― lag∞n, Thursday, 12 October 2017 20:55 (eight years ago)
like the fans were driven insane by the decades of choking, and then the winning started and they were driven further insane
― lag∞n, Thursday, 12 October 2017 20:56 (eight years ago)
anyway ive experienced sports in a number of american cities and nothing ive seen comes close to the level boston sports mania, which is why imo it is the "best" sports city
― lag∞n, Thursday, 12 October 2017 21:03 (eight years ago)
new york is too cosmopolitain to really focus on sports, philly is too negative, everywhere else is too nice or doesnt care enough or w/e
― lag∞n, Thursday, 12 October 2017 21:04 (eight years ago)
i will admit that ive been impressed with the psychosis of bronocs fans, i was watching a pats game in a bar and everyone was rooting really intensely against them cursing and yelling at the tv, and the broncos werent even playing, but still people are much too even keeled in colorado to really compete
