― k3vin k., Monday, 9 October 2017 23:01 (eight years ago)

― ciderpress, Monday, 9 October 2017 23:02 (eight years ago)
is there anywhere i can get a CSV of all active players and their current team? basketball-reference doesn't have the player list up yet for this season, other sites have it but broken up across teams/pages

was wondering lol
― lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 23:48 (eight years ago)
in re: embiid extension. that is just as much a product of 'the process' as all those high draft picks were. and it will only get more obvious as more young sixers move beyond their rookie contracts. you have to figure some of those talented young guys will need to be traded for two or three rotation players with well-under-max contracts, just to keep the luxury tax from exploding in the sixer management's face.

that whole article has a very podcasting is more fun than writing vibe
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:47 (eight years ago)
yeah 5/48 for embiid would be a great deal!
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:48 (eight years ago)
embiid would have been an RFA so he was looking at the prospect of playing this year and next on essentially 1 year deals. why wouldn't the sixers use that leverage to shave a good bit of money off of that extension? even 5/100 would have made me nervous for the sixers but they agreed to pay $30 million per year over 5 years to a guy who has played 31 games in three years??? how is this not one of the most insane things a team has ever done
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:52 (eight years ago)
you only give a rookie a max extension if you think he's going to be playing for you for 10 years. you're basically buying his loyalty for when he has to get his *next contract*. do the sixers seriously think embiid is going to be playing 6 years from now?
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:54 (eight years ago)
trust the flopcess
― professor of postmalonial studies (m bison), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:55 (eight years ago)
the only explanations i cn think of is team embiid were playing hardball and convinced the sixers he wld take the one year tender and walk if they didnt max him out, or they just really wanted to have a great relationship with him cause they think hes the future of the franchise
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:02 (eight years ago)
I'D'VE LET HIS ASS WALK
― professor of postmalonial studies (m bison), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:06 (eight years ago)
hahaha this is so sixers
the thing is he is insanely good tho (31 games)
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:08 (eight years ago)
has their ever been a player this good this injured this young, i think walton had a couple near complete seasons under his belt, oden had potential but wasnt really that good when he played
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:13 (eight years ago)
grant hill had at least several good years in detroit before the orlando tragic days

walton's numbers were pretty embiid-esque, i didnt know they were this bad myself until i checked it out just now
― Clay, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:37 (eight years ago)
(note that he was mvp in 78 playing 58 games and 33mpg which is just absolutely unthinkable now)
― Clay, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:38 (eight years ago)
bill walton more like billy cash because he hurt himself today
― professor of postmalonial studies (m bison), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:39 (eight years ago)
if the sixers were convinced that embiid would play two more years w/o a long term contract they suck at their jobs
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 05:29 (eight years ago)
the thing is that they could have offered him the max on the final day they could possibly sign him 2 years from now. what's the rush?
oh well i hope it works out. he's a totally unique player.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 05:31 (eight years ago)
I’m tempted to think the sixers fanbase and podcastscenti is so batshit delusionally optimistic that it led to irrational front office exuberance
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 07:34 (eight years ago)
Embiid needs to stop playing such a physical game or he is toast. Stop the 30 foot drives, stop falling down
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 07:38 (eight years ago)
losing weight wld be good too
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 15:34 (eight years ago)
apparently the contract is "very complex" so i guess there's some way for them to get out of the money if he can't play
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 15:36 (eight years ago)
i dont think theres too much they can actually do on that front unless they got team options on the last two years or something, like bonuses can only be a fraction of the whole contract

He said today he weighs 285
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 22:23 (eight years ago)
Someone ran the numbers on 7 footers who weigh over 280 and apparently it’s pretty rare that they stay healthy
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 22:24 (eight years ago)
Shout out to Shaq’s bones and ligaments
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 22:25 (eight years ago)
Yeah, the best builds on seven footers I've ever seen were on Wilt, Shaq and Yao. They could carry that kind of weight and not break down.

i love yao and all but his career was not exactly what i'd throw up as the paradigm of a consistent & healthy big man

yao was also about as close to 8' as he was to 7'

yao retracted. mea culpa.
