lowe putting the celtics into the wizards/raptors tier is an insult and an outrage http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/20960590/zach-lowe-2017-18-nba-tiers-ratings

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:06 (eight years ago)

smh

They are also relying on young players and unproven long-range shooters -- a big deal for a team that jacked more triples than everyone but Houston and Cleveland. Opponents will dare Jaylen Brown, Marcus Morris, Terry Rozier, Jayson Tatum and svelte Marcus Smart, and Stevens will likely encourage them to let fly -- at least from the corners, where Brown quietly drilled 44 percent. But most first- and second-year players are net negatives.

If Philly makes the playoffs, it will mean that Joel Embiid played a healthy number of games -- at least 50, and probably more. When Embiid plays, the Sixers are good. They outscored opponents with Embiid on the floor last season, when nobodies were playing minutes that will now go to Simmons, J.J. Redick, Markelle Fultz and Jerryd Bayless. (Scoff at Bayless, but he's going to close a lot of games.)

Jaylen Brown, Marcus Morris, Terry Rozier, Jayson Tatum and svelte Marcus Smart

only two out of five of these guys are first or second year players!

Simmons, J.J. Redick, Markelle Fultz and Jerryd Bayless

two out of four of these guys are first year players!

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:23 (eight years ago)

unbelievable

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:23 (eight years ago)

btw i watched celtics-6ers the other day and simmons does look pretty amazing but he also picked up 3 offensive fouls because hes afraid to shoot

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:27 (eight years ago)

fear of shooting prob won't last all season

A is for (Aimless), Monday, 9 October 2017 18:28 (eight years ago)

well tbf hes afraid of shooting because hes bad at it

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:28 (eight years ago)

celtics will be good and definitely better than last year but i don't think they will be as good as those other teams in the tier below the warriors

marcos, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:30 (eight years ago)

cleveland better pray they get last years isaiah lol

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:33 (eight years ago)

such a big roster turnover might slow the Celtics down in first 20 games or so as they get acquainted. after that, they should have most of the kinks worked out and we'll understand them better.

A is for (Aimless), Monday, 9 October 2017 18:33 (eight years ago)

it was just preseason D but watching kyrie getting good catch and shoot 3 looks in an actual offense the other night was prettty sweet

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:35 (eight years ago)

hayward likewise came from a fairly dysfunctional offense, celtics gonna put up some points this year

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:36 (eight years ago)

Zach Lowe wrote a lengthy piece analyzing teams from best to worst. all he had to say about the worst team was:

Chicago Bulls

The Bulls sure as hell are aiming lower!

nomar, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:50 (eight years ago)

even thinking about the bulls is hell

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 18:51 (eight years ago)

is that the orlando magic theory I see in the Lowe piece???

ciderpress, Monday, 9 October 2017 19:55 (eight years ago)

Just turned off my yahoo sports alerts for Bulls games. Don't need even more reminders that the world is going to hell.

not bad for 31 games

Report: Joel Embiid agrees to five-year, 48 million max extension with Sixers https://t.co/Olnv6yzJdH

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 22:00 (eight years ago)

The "starters" on their preseason roster looks like group of guys that would normally be struggling to make a roster.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 9 October 2017 22:00 (eight years ago)

seriously can't figure out this last eastern conference slot for my predix, none of these teams should win more than 35 games

ciderpress, Monday, 9 October 2017 22:06 (eight years ago)

that embiid extension O_____________________________O

J0rdan S., Monday, 9 October 2017 22:12 (eight years ago)

yeah i don't know what to make of it...

if embiid stays healthy and has a big year, it's going to make steph's old contract look like a bad contract

k3vin k., Monday, 9 October 2017 22:36 (eight years ago)

they were in a tight spot its either sign him or let him walk, youd obvs like to be able to get a better deal but i they cldnt

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 22:53 (eight years ago)

uhhhh wait i didn't see that there was a 1 in front of the 48.......

k3vin k., Monday, 9 October 2017 23:01 (eight years ago)

haha yeah '$1' gets swallowed as a variable or something in ilx tweet embeds

ciderpress, Monday, 9 October 2017 23:02 (eight years ago)

is there anywhere i can get a CSV of all active players and their current team? basketball-reference doesn't have the player list up yet for this season, other sites have it but broken up across teams/pages

ciderpress, Monday, 9 October 2017 23:38 (eight years ago)

uhhhh wait i didn't see that there was a 1 in front of the 48.......

was wondering lol

lag∞n, Monday, 9 October 2017 23:48 (eight years ago)

in re: embiid extension. that is just as much a product of 'the process' as all those high draft picks were. and it will only get more obvious as more young sixers move beyond their rookie contracts. you have to figure some of those talented young guys will need to be traded for two or three rotation players with well-under-max contracts, just to keep the luxury tax from exploding in the sixer management's face.

kyle kazuma is passe the new good player is furkan korkmaz

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 02:31 (eight years ago)

Nurkic is shooting way too many long jumpers

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:41 (eight years ago)

“Scoff at Bayless, but he’s going to close a lot of games”

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:43 (eight years ago)

that whole article has a very podcasting is more fun than writing vibe

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:47 (eight years ago)

yeah 5/48 for embiid would be a great deal!

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:48 (eight years ago)

embiid would have been an RFA so he was looking at the prospect of playing this year and next on essentially 1 year deals. why wouldn't the sixers use that leverage to shave a good bit of money off of that extension? even 5/100 would have made me nervous for the sixers but they agreed to pay $30 million per year over 5 years to a guy who has played 31 games in three years??? how is this not one of the most insane things a team has ever done

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:52 (eight years ago)

you only give a rookie a max extension if you think he's going to be playing for you for 10 years. you're basically buying his loyalty for when he has to get his *next contract*. do the sixers seriously think embiid is going to be playing 6 years from now?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:54 (eight years ago)

trust the flopcess

professor of postmalonial studies (m bison), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 03:55 (eight years ago)

the only explanations i cn think of is team embiid were playing hardball and convinced the sixers he wld take the one year tender and walk if they didnt max him out, or they just really wanted to have a great relationship with him cause they think hes the future of the franchise

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:02 (eight years ago)

I'D'VE LET HIS ASS WALK

professor of postmalonial studies (m bison), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:06 (eight years ago)

hahaha this is so sixers

professor of postmalonial studies (m bison), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:06 (eight years ago)

the thing is he is insanely good tho (31 games)

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:08 (eight years ago)

has their ever been a player this good this injured this young, i think walton had a couple near complete seasons under his belt, oden had potential but wasnt really that good when he played

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:13 (eight years ago)

grant hill had at least several good years in detroit before the orlando tragic days

professor of postmalonial studies (m bison), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:14 (eight years ago)

https://i.imgur.com/OBbstco.png

walton's numbers were pretty embiid-esque, i didnt know they were this bad myself until i checked it out just now

Clay, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:37 (eight years ago)

(note that he was mvp in 78 playing 58 games and 33mpg which is just absolutely unthinkable now)

Clay, Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:38 (eight years ago)

bill walton more like billy cash because he hurt himself today

professor of postmalonial studies (m bison), Tuesday, 10 October 2017 04:39 (eight years ago)

if the sixers were convinced that embiid would play two more years w/o a long term contract they suck at their jobs

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 05:29 (eight years ago)

the thing is that they could have offered him the max on the final day they could possibly sign him 2 years from now. what's the rush?

oh well i hope it works out. he's a totally unique player.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 October 2017 05:31 (eight years ago)

I’m tempted to think the sixers fanbase and podcastscenti is so batshit delusionally optimistic that it led to irrational front office exuberance
