the city is what ppl in the bay call sf, the town is trying to shoehorn their current location into a riff on the old sf warrior jerseys

lag∞n, Friday, 29 September 2017 18:26 (eight years ago)

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 16:33 (eight years ago)

fwiw seeing them on court the new unis looked.... fine even the ads, the worst thing was that strange new like bibbed back it makes it look like theyre wearing practice uniforms when their backs are turned not sure what the whole idea is except its prob a profile nike is trying to sell across their whole line

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 16:38 (eight years ago)

to be clear the new jerseys are def worse but overall they dont read as that much different, except the back thing which is just weird

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 16:39 (eight years ago)

rendering the ads in the team colors is def the way to go, much less obtrusive

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 16:41 (eight years ago)

kinda reminds me of

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 16:48 (eight years ago)

im def intrigued with the back details for the new unis but need to see them in action. it may just be a cheap way of making them look 'updated' or 'modern'

Spottie, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 17:05 (eight years ago)

yeah it was funny without even thinking about it when the whole team had their back to the camera i was like wait wtf its like theyre wearing different uniforms since the front and back dont match

Spottie, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 18:51 (eight years ago)

lmao xp

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 18:52 (eight years ago)

i am morally opposed to the soccer look in the nba, keep the sports separate as god intended

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 18:52 (eight years ago)

agreed that the sports should not fuck

Clay, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 18:53 (eight years ago)

let us never forget thats how slamball happened

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 18:54 (eight years ago)

i dont think the minny ones look THAT soccer like fwiw but i see it with the jazz ones from last year with the little logo and no words.

Spottie, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 18:57 (eight years ago)

no one calls it the town afaict

wrong

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:13 (eight years ago)

really tho like in regular conversation

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:23 (eight years ago)

like if u said to a random bay area resident i live in the the town wld they be like oh sure what you said is normal

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:25 (eight years ago)

depends on who you're talking to but i hear it plenty in oakland.

in sf i don't hear much about oakland in general.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:26 (eight years ago)

ok ive never lived in the bay as an adult but i have spent a lot of time there since both sides of my family are there and have never heard the town where the city seems more common than saying san francisco

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:28 (eight years ago)

which was what was cool abt the old warriors jerseys it wasnt some contrived rip city buzz city bs it was what ppl actually called the place, anyway theres no way the warriors wldve been like the town is what ppl cal the place we play if it werent for those old jerseys

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:32 (eight years ago)

Lynch wasn’t concerned with how good the Raiders are expected to be next season. He was all about Oakland.

“I got the whole town riding with me. So that's good what they've got going on. All that good shit you just said. But I got a whole new Oakland behind me. The way we feel just about where we're from and why we represent where we're from so hard is because we know what the struggle is and how we get down.”

In case Marshawn hadn’t kept it real enough, he gave us this gem:

“Every home game that I get to come to this motherfucker, I'm probably going to be riding with this whole town.

“This is actually born and raised and bred pissing in them hallways and running down them alleyways,” he said. “I really did that, right here and now I get an opportunity to play here.”

Like, this is really how it comes up ... lowercase, "this town", etc. Not necessarily "the town" but not necessarily "oaktown" either. (Although that is certainly common, especially if you lived here in the '90s i think).

https://www.oaklandish.com/search?type=product&q=town

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:36 (eight years ago)

calling a place a town seems p different than calling it the town, no

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:39 (eight years ago)

if someone says "town" no one is like "oh which town do u mean"

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:42 (eight years ago)

i mean, maybe if they live in Alamo or like ... Marin.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:43 (eight years ago)

i mean ppl use this construction abt everywhere I got the whole town riding with me. maybe referring to oakland as a town is more common than other places but that kinda just makes the transliterating into the nickname the town even worse marketing bs

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:44 (eight years ago)

it's definitely a local marketing phenomenon as my link demonstrates. Lotta honky t-shirt makers putting "The Town" on stuff, and the local sportswriters def love it too.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:46 (eight years ago)

But it has been going on for a long time. It's not new.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:47 (eight years ago)

ugh h8 that shit like yr in brooklyn its not necessary to wear a tshirt w that info on it

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:48 (eight years ago)

"im going to THE TOWN tonight" is something i can only imagine the worst try hard saying

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 October 2017 19:50 (eight years ago)

another place not really called the town
