the outcome that would lead to the most shit stirring drama would be the trade getting cancelled, ergo i am rooting for that outcome

idk abt leverage for this deal but cleveland is looking very fucked if isaiah is seriously injured, kyrie is basically boycotting until hes traded and they badly need to field a competitive team in order to have a shot at retaining bron, celtics on the other hand still have a bunch of draft picks to keep them warm

kinda all comes down to how injured isaiah is

the answer to all their problems is of course to trade bron

i wonder if accepting injured isaiah only to go back demanding more compensation once everyone in boston (fans etc) accepted kyrie into their lives was cleveland's plan all along...

it's not like it was a secret that IT had a very bad and potentially debilitating injury...

i disagree also that the cavs have less leverage. kyrie can posture all he wants about not showing up to training camp but the precedent for a star player of his caliber sitting out a season does not exist. if the cavs had to take him back and couldn't find a better deal he would play for them and they would make it back to the finals. he's not giving up $18 million because he doesn't wanna play with lebron anymore.

yeah 17 dimensional chess and whatnot the cavs being actually freaked out by ITs injury once they got a look at it seems more likely to me, everyone knows that this deal with a healthy-ish IT is way better than anything the cavs were getting from anyone else, could actually make them better this year, and is good compared to historical allstar trades, blowing up a good deal with shenanigans seems unwise especially since theres no way the celtics are just throwing brown/tatum in

celtics maybe willing to throw them an inconsequential face saving piece/pick but like whatve you done then save face

the scenario where kyrie plays for the cavs this year and they don't make the finals is like locker room drama of cataclysmic proportions. it's possible but that team has been thru a lot of drama and as far as the east goes it hasn't mattered.

cleveland is also being run by like the 4th guy in their front office under griffin, he did well on this deal and isn't wrong to try to leverage something here but let's not overcomplicate things he is very very green.

but wld that matter as far as bron leaving or not, i mean if its not true that hes gonna leave and making the finals and losing again wld be fine with him then cleveland is in a pretty chill spot, if his default position as of now is that hes gonna leave having their #2 guy be someone who hates him and is a locker room malcontent who is gonna score some points but just roll his eyes when bron yells at him for not doing the extra stuff that they need him to is prob not gonna help convince him to stay, likewise if hes on the fence then having kyrie around seems not great

clevelands willingness to fulfill kyries trade request makes me think were somewhere in the latter two possibilities, especially since getting that pick looks like insurance against a bronless future

so imo leverage in this deal is prob kinda a wash but cleve is just in a really shitty spot if IT cant go

that they're asking for more compensation and not trying to revoke the trade leads me to believe they thought this was a likely outcome going in

i also think this trade will have little impact on whether bron stays or goes either way

the history of how teams with lebron are built is not "who will be on this team should lebron choose them" but "who will lebron choose to be on his team when he decides which team to play for"

friend of mine points out that the fact that the cavs have an inexperienced gm does make the likelihood that hes trying to nickel n dime the celtics higher cause he doesnt realize that hell pay for these type of moves down the road via his reputation being hurt

He's totally susceptible to this I think and it actually could be a great locker room- IT is gonna have the fire of a thousand suns in him once he can go, he's already old AAU buds with Kevin love and pretty much everyone loves IT so maybe he's the hub of a good vibe. Crowder seems like the type of dude bron embraces, backup to do the dirty work, I dunno
