Yer right Kev I basically blacked out when I saw the news because I loved that little magical elf with all my heart and think kyrie is an incredible scorer and utter weirdo

But I guess they're pretty comparable in that they can both score like crazy and are at best medium bad defenders. As noted the real numbers that work for the cs are kyries age and comparative size- I am legit terrified that if IT loses even a half step he's in serious trouble

I am supremely unexcited to root for a flat earther tho

lot of ppl on the twitter seem to think the celtics way overpaid but kyrie having two years left on his deal makes it pretty different than past disgruntled stars wanting out situations, also his age

if he re-signs it was more than a fair trade.... assuming he's actually good of course

been thinking about it and i think ainge is going to trade horford before the season

theyre so young now and hes old and doesnt really fit what theyre trying to do but still has a lot of value

that seems insane. do they even have a frontcourt without him

i think that would make them pretty toxic for other FAs.

i don't see what they could be trying to do in which horford doesn't fit, he's a very all-around player

in answer to yr rebuttals

1 they wld have to trade him for a front court player, or players as part of a bigger trade

2 this is a reasonable point re free agents

3 al is really good but he doesnt rebound or really protect the rim which is what they need also hes older than everyone else and his foot speed is deteriorating which cld make him a defensive liability before his contract is over, hes already hopeless defending power forwards

addendum: hayward is 27 so he might not be that psyched abt a total youth movement right when they signed him, maybe theyll go the other direction and move some of their youth to get another in his prime player idk its just a tough time to do so cause of mostly the warriors and a lil but the cavs, i mean theyll prob stand pat since trades are hard to do but al kinda feels out of step w the rest of the team to me

maybe next year def not right now

ainge said something in his press conference for the kyrie trade that made me think he was looking to make another move someone asked him how he felt about the state of the team and he said lets wait til the end of the summer to have that discussion, obvs he cld just be talking abt smaller complimentary moves or just saying that as a matter of course but if he were to make a big move al is the only big contract he has left to trade

how do we think kyrie is going to handle potentially being part of a big 3 again and potentially being the worst player of the 3?

i think itll be fine cause hell be the primary ballhandler scorer

Likely there will be a sorting out period for the first two to four months, as the Celtics figure out 'whose team' they are.

hayward and horford are both guys who play off the ball a fair amount so it works in theory

kyrie is not worse than al horford and the idea that he's worse than gordon hayward is a little challopsy too, or at least based on a single season

kyrie being worse than hayward is prob a legit idea with the right metrics but in the nba hierarchy kyrie is unquestionably ahead.

that said i don't think there are many fit questions in boston, kyrie will play within the offense most of the time and he'll get crunchtime buckets when it makes sense.

curious to see if stevens can screw kyrie's head on a lil straight

yeah i think theres a good chance brad gets through to him especially considering hes never really been in a good stable coaching situation

re whether hayward is better than kyrie i do think gordon is generally a little underrated just cause the jazz played the slowest pace in the league and didnt have a lot of guys who could break down the defense so his looks were tougher than average half court slog type situations, hell be getting a lot easier baskets on the celtics

Yeah thinking about Stevens piloting an offense with kyrie and Hayward and lots of neat parts got me more psyched about this trade
