Step 25. Paul George signs with Los Angeles Lakers using cap space (July 4th 2018)

gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:14 (nine years ago)

doubt the celtics trade for george without at least a promise to exercise his option for 2018

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:16 (nine years ago)

unless i guess they got him for cheap cheap

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:17 (nine years ago)

clips also getting harrell in the deal, which seems good for them.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:17 (nine years ago)

i would still prefer that they didn't bother with paul george, i really think you start hitting serious diminishing returns there compared with any big man who can rebound and defend

ciderpress, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:17 (nine years ago)

(assuming you've already signed gordon hayward, that is)

ciderpress, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:18 (nine years ago)

first option looks a lot better to me, marcus smart is a valuable player when you have enough good scorers that he never has to attempt to score

― ciderpress, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 2:13 PM (three minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

yeah prob tho i think rozier has a good chance at ending up the better player

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:18 (nine years ago)

i think signing george even with hayward wld still be a mega home run theyre both such complete flexible players, tho getting a top flight big who can defend and rebound might even be better

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:20 (nine years ago)

So (take a breath): Beverley, Williams, Dekker, Harrell, Kelly, Liggins, Quarterman & 2018 first (small protection) to Clippers for CP3.

heh

nice cage (m bison), Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:20 (nine years ago)

harrell makes the deal look a lil better, he has some upside def

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:21 (nine years ago)

that's 7.25 players for 1 seems like a bad deal

ciderpress, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:21 (nine years ago)

otm

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:22 (nine years ago)

its not a tremendous deal for the rockets. they keep most of their key rotation intact, tho, so it still works i guess

btw r.i.p. new cba that was supposed to prevent star clustering

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:53 (nine years ago)

the stars, have too much gravity

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:55 (nine years ago)

new cba can fix this by raising the max salary which will squeeze out nba's middle class.

nice cage (m bison), Wednesday, 28 June 2017 18:58 (nine years ago)

if a small subset of teams continue to be run much better than the others its a lot harder to keep stars from clustering onto those teams

ciderpress, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 19:04 (nine years ago)

some of the circumstances are just kinda random like bron wanting to be in cleve, steph signing a contract right in the middle of an injury scare then turning into an mvp and so forth

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 19:07 (nine years ago)

Rox gonna start the season w 7 actual players and 8 g league 10-day contracts

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2017/06/28/lebron-james-begins-production-three-part-nba-documentary/436541001/

LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment has teamed up with Showtime to create a three-part documentary that examines the modern history of the NBA and the league’s impact on pop culture, Showtime announced in a news release on Wednesday.

Filmmaker Gotham Chopra and executive producers James and Maverick Carter have begun production of the documentary, which is slated for release in 2018.

“We developed the idea for these films because of the incredible, generational impact some of the NBA’s most successful players have had on every aspect of American culture,” said Carter, CEO of SpringHill Entertainment, in the news release. “Gotham is the perfect filmmaker to bring these stories to life, and SHOWTIME is the right platform to showcase how they were able to transcend the game and shape the culture in an unprecedented way.”

ha hadnt heard this one

CP3's relationship with Doc Rivers was ruined after he refused to deal his son for Melo, per @michaeleaves https://t.co/aADxrUQV3P pic.twitter.com/ffs7JWPgvm

"New York offered Carmelo and Sasha Vujacic to the Clippers in exchange for Jamal Crawford, Paul Pierce and Austin Rivers, a deal to which Rivers ultimately said no. That event led Paul to feel that keeping his son on the roster was more important to Doc than improving the team."

OMG

yeah the giant cap jump is a big part of it too, just a lot of different things happening around the same time. and it can take up to 4 years for the league to reset each time someone breaks it, which is a long time.

ciderpress, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 19:39 (nine years ago)

hahahah, im just boggling at doc right now. bc if you want to coach while your son is in the league, probably a good idea to avoid coaching him due to conflict of interests

doc: fuck that, im trading for him

ok then just be careful bc there may come a time where the interests of your family and your profession will be at odds--

doc: fuck that, i will not trade my son for melo

nice cage (m bison), Wednesday, 28 June 2017 19:56 (nine years ago)

lol doc really did right by austin kids got himself a nice lil nest egg

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 June 2017 20:00 (nine years ago)

i seriously groaned aloud reading it

brimstead, Thursday, 29 June 2017 01:13 (nine years ago)

The market has changed huh:

The Houston Rockets would have had to trade Ryan Anderson if they would have signed Chris Paul outright in free agency instead of trading for him.

The market for Anderson, who has three years and $60 million remaining on his deal was incredibly soft.

At least two teams were demanding two first round picks from the Rockets in exchange for taking on Anderson and his contract.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 29 June 2017 01:34 (nine years ago)

yeah, teams that want to contend have so little margin of error that they're (correctly) scared of taking on a guy that can be played out of key playoff matchups. i'm already tired of ppl saying "two-way players" but it's a real thing if you want to play against golden state.

Sources: Warriors' luxury tax moving forward is concern for Golden State and owner Joe Lacob in re-signing Andre Iguodala.
