$24m to buy out phil vs. $54m to buy out melo, that's what you call a good business decision.

it was a silly decision to extend phil's contract, but it was an even sillier decision by phil to antagonize the team's two biggest stars and best players in the press for months.

cp3 to the rockets is the only team that could conceivably challenge the warriors imo

interesting discussion on the last lowe pod about how teams feel it's easier to defend the rockets in the playoffs because you know they're only taking shots from behind the three or at the rim, and that cp3 could conceivably diversify their offense specifically in the playoffs

no harm in having two elite ball handlers, paul can play off the ball some and get lots of rest during the regular season, plus the enormity of his responsibilities seemed to catch up w harden in the playoffs, this makes the rockets less predictable/defendable

yeah it's a great spot to be in no doubt but just seeing the guy come off his best season being the primary and then bringing in an elite point is strange imo

of course, this is still a truly impressive example of backchanneling. i am supportive in this instance mostly b/c doc got owned.

my take on phils actions is he wasnt trying to sabotage his career he just didnt care, what he did care about were his grudges, hes an old crank basically

this isn't a terrible haul for the rockets. i think dekker could become a really nice complimentary player, and lou will and pat bev should both hold their trade value thru next deadline

i feel like Paul is going to put up some ridiculous numbers next season and that they'll run the Warriors completely off the floor at least twice. not sure about the playoffs though.

yeah also he cldve talked to them, after trade negotiations begin youre allowed to, this def happened through an intermediary at least since paul had to agree to accept the his contract option

its def his best shot at a ring w/o taking a paycut

I like this deal for the Rockets, but I don't think this makes them THAT much better.
