He's like the Ricky Davis of point guards and point guard is a bad position to be Ricky Davis

Full quote: "We want to thank him for what he did for us. But what I needed was a leader. Someone more like Derek Fischer or Tyrone Lue.”

We want to thank him for what he did for us. But what I needed was a Big Baller.

after doing some research i have decided that lonzo ball is going to be really good and i wish he wasn't on the rival team
― ciderpress, Sunday, 25 June 2017 03:14 (nine years ago)
He was pretty fun to watch in college
― down that brown path (Spottie), Sunday, 25 June 2017 04:18 (nine years ago)
hes def a super charismatic players but i dont trust it his skill set just doesnt seems very nba to me
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 04:24 (nine years ago)
Top notch passers tend to do well. But his J is too hard to tell if it'll translate.
― down that brown path (Spottie), Sunday, 25 June 2017 05:45 (nine years ago)
i just dont trust his ability to score in the nba halfcourt
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 15:45 (nine years ago)
if you cant put enough pressure on the defense to open up the passing lanes its tough, if yr pull up jumper requires a step back...

something like 70% of balls pnr possessions ended in a pass IN COLLEGE thats down right marcus smartian except hes doing it in the pros, if u cant yam on college defenses whatre u gonna do in the pros
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 16:45 (nine years ago)
he shot 70% on 2s but thats prob almost entirely in transition where he is legit great
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 16:46 (nine years ago)
lot of kidd comparisons but kidd was an all world defender and cld get to the hole
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 16:47 (nine years ago)
i think prob the most likely outcome for ball is hell do some stuff and find ways to make himself useful because hes smart and talented but hell struggle if defenses really key on him and hes not gonna score a ton or have great percentages, its fortunate hes going to a team with a good creative coach cause hes a weird player
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 16:51 (nine years ago)

shooting this high on 2s is a really good indicator, isn't it?
― k3vin k., Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:15 (nine years ago)
generally yes its great but i wld like see a breakdown of what kind of shots those were, it seems like based on other stats ive seen like that pnr that not many of them were created by him in the halfcourt
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:19 (nine years ago)
2s are bad now
― ciderpress, Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:28 (nine years ago)
Ball was a fairly good dribble-driver in college, but when he got to the hole he was mostly looking to pass first, layup second.
He's weirdly passive, he always seemed to shy away from pressure whenever people keyed on him on D. He's such a pass-first guy that when he faces a good defender, like De'Aron Fox in the S16, he doesn't try to force the issue and lets his teammates force the issue.
― black covfefe in bed (voodoo chili), Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:33 (nine years ago)
He will definitely benefit from having Luke Walton as a coach, instead of Steve Alford
― black covfefe in bed (voodoo chili), Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:34 (nine years ago)
Also, it made sense for him to drive and kick in college considering his team was stacked with long-range bombers at every position
― black covfefe in bed (voodoo chili), Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:36 (nine years ago)
i am in the "lonzo ball will be good" camp
― nice cage (m bison), Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:43 (nine years ago)
good is a pretty low bar for the #2 pick!

i cld see him developing a good floater game but he doesnt seem like someone who will get to the rim regularly in the pros, if thats true that he was turning down layups for passes thats very bad decision making! tho i think its more likely that he just had trouble getting past the second level of the defense

draft express has his half court ts% at 47 fwiw
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:50 (nine years ago)
and every breakdown of him ive watched lists halfcourt scoring as a weakness

i think he will justify his draft position
― ciderpress, Sunday, 25 June 2017 17:52 (nine years ago)
not that there's been a particularly great #2 pick in a decade
― ciderpress, Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:03 (nine years ago)
what shd be expected of a #2 pick recent misses notwithstanding, multiple allstar appearances? a first team all nba selection
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:11 (nine years ago)
being better than the guys picked after him
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:12 (nine years ago)
thats a bit unfair because player development is a thing. i'd like to see average career WS and 3-year peak WS by draft position
― ciderpress, Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:25 (nine years ago)
Ehh, I would argue that driving to kick rather than is a good strategy in college, considering the shorter 3PT line
He def does need to work on his finishing though, that's one of the reasons I think Fox is gonna be better than him in the long run
― black covfefe in bed (voodoo chili), Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:31 (nine years ago)
i think if youre not getting a star at #2 youve prob swung and miss, tho obvs some drafts just dont have the talent, the problem with a lot of those draft value charts is they have the misses baked in, like so many stats theyre conceptually flawed
― lag∞n, Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:34 (nine years ago)
i trust the big baller brand to deliver in the 21st century
― nice cage (m bison), Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:35 (nine years ago)
they should have the misses baked in - the point is not to show you what a hit is, just what has happened historically
― ciderpress, Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:36 (nine years ago)
you can look at the distribution rather than just the average if you want to come up with a line for 'hit'
― ciderpress, Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:37 (nine years ago)
no i dont think so

there was actually a recent espn article that had bar graphs of all the picks by career WS
― k3vin k., Sunday, 25 June 2017 18:40 (nine years ago)
those charts are designed to give a value to each spot, if youre a better than average gm using one then u wld be undervaluing high picks
