yep

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 14:26 (nine years ago)

don't see why they'd balk at paying the tax tho, they have to be making so much money from merch and TV. plus they can legally go over the cap to sign steph, right?

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 14:27 (nine years ago)

iirc the luxury tax is truly insane if you pay it for more than one season

micah, Friday, 2 June 2017 14:35 (nine years ago)

ya

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 14:37 (nine years ago)

if anyone can pay it is the bay area billionaires right

marcos, Friday, 2 June 2017 14:43 (nine years ago)

most franchise owners are loathe to pay hundreds of millions of extra money into their teams

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 14:55 (nine years ago)

yeah i mean even if youre a bay area billionaire its still a lot of money

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 14:58 (nine years ago)

mickey arison is worth $9 billion and balked at paying like $20 something million in extra tax to keep mike miller around even tho they knew it was going to deeply annoy lebron

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 14:59 (nine years ago)

the warriors are a different case but if we're talking like $75-$100 million in tax money or something then they're basically just accepting a loss on the team for several years and i don't think that's tenable

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:00 (nine years ago)

its official the warriors are cooked

ciderpress, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:09 (nine years ago)

the insane tax bill is when u go over the line 3 out of 4 years, the warriors went over the line this year for the first time so theyre in pretty good shape on that front https://www.statista.com/statistics/262004/nba-teams-by-luxury-tax-payments

buut this article says they cld still be paying $100m in tax next year even without the repeater tax https://sports.yahoo.com/news/warriors-could-eclipse-260-million-165703400.html

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:16 (nine years ago)

oh wait that chart i posted only goes up to last year so the warriors paid the tax last year but just got under it this year

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:20 (nine years ago)

they will def be over next year so then in 2018-19 is when theyll be facing paying the dreaded repeater tax which basically doubles their tax bill, they cld bite the bullet and pay a huge tax next year then make whatever trades they need to in two years i guess but itd be a pretty monumental job, kinda think they might be looking at moving one of their dudes this offseason

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:24 (nine years ago)

klay def seems like the odd man out and they cld prob get a p good haul for him

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:27 (nine years ago)

klay for bradley and rozier

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:32 (nine years ago)

wld only save them ~$6m

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:33 (nine years ago)

klay is integral to their style of play but ultimately he's obviously the most dispensable of the three with the most theoretically replaceable skillset

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:33 (nine years ago)

they should basically spend all their draft capital this year trying to find a klay clone imo

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:34 (nine years ago)

klone

ciderpress, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:35 (nine years ago)

klay for brogdon

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:35 (nine years ago)

that's a great trade

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:38 (nine years ago)

klay for gary harris, who other than the warriors says no

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:40 (nine years ago)

Guys they're not reading klay this offseason

fo, fo, fo, fo (Spottie), Friday, 2 June 2017 15:40 (nine years ago)

Trading.

fo, fo, fo, fo (Spottie), Friday, 2 June 2017 15:41 (nine years ago)

if they win this year they'll keep that core four together at least one more year i agree

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:41 (nine years ago)

Lacob already said he's willing to pay whatever to keep the team together.

fo, fo, fo, fo (Spottie), Friday, 2 June 2017 15:42 (nine years ago)

that sounds nice but when he has to start writing $100 million checks we'll see

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:43 (nine years ago)

again don't they like make so much money on marketing/ticket sales/TV deals? i have to believe that even 100m can't be an insurmountable sum

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:43 (nine years ago)

but yeah writing 100m checks can't be fun

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:43 (nine years ago)

dont tickets cost roughly 10m per seat at oracle

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:44 (nine years ago)

Yes and the prices gonna be skyrocketing w the new arena too.

fo, fo, fo, fo (Spottie), Friday, 2 June 2017 15:45 (nine years ago)

theyre trading him sry weve decided

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:45 (nine years ago)

i've decided to acquire klay's contract

, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:47 (nine years ago)

lagoon otm, if you have to trade dray or klay you should probably trade klay because he's not as good

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 15:47 (nine years ago)

actually its because no one wants dray

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 15:56 (nine years ago)

the nuggets want dray imo

ciderpress, Friday, 2 June 2017 16:04 (nine years ago)

klay is better than just a 3 and D guy but the other things he does have severely diminishing returns on a team that already has steph and kd

ciderpress, Friday, 2 June 2017 16:07 (nine years ago)

he kinda is just a 3 n D guy, hes the best 3 n D guy, but his scoring ability is underutilized as a 3rd option

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 16:10 (nine years ago)

otm

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 16:11 (nine years ago)

seems to me dray wld just be average on any other team

, Friday, 2 June 2017 16:11 (nine years ago)

on any other team his teammates wld prob kill him since theyre not forgiving christians

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 16:12 (nine years ago)

draymond's defense would be elite on any team in the NBA, his appeal as a playmaker would be more dependent on the players around him & the style of play

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 16:14 (nine years ago)

this says the warriors had an operating income of $74 million as of feb 17 https://www.forbes.com/teams/golden-state-warriors/

so it's not like they can just eat hundreds of millions of dollars in luxury tax payments

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 June 2017 16:17 (nine years ago)

i cld see them doing it next year but after that they have to blow it up

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 16:52 (nine years ago)

hard to blow it up 1 year after they have to sign a bunch of players. its now or in several years

ciderpress, Friday, 2 June 2017 16:57 (nine years ago)

well they have to sign kd and steph no matter what then fill then fill the roster out w scrubs/discounts anyway so i think trading klay and or dray is kinda the same this year or next

lag∞n, Friday, 2 June 2017 17:04 (nine years ago)

didn't iggy say they have all this shit figured out already

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 17:18 (nine years ago)

also, look, dray is not going anywhere unless he somehow falls off a cliff

k3vin k., Friday, 2 June 2017 17:18 (nine years ago)

didn't iggy say they have all this shit figured out already

if the dubs front office doesn't already have a plan, they aren't earning their pay. whether the plan keeps steph, kd, dray & klay together is the real question.
