I know we make fun of messy drama lebron but he's been a real dude about anything that matters his entire career

marcos, Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:29 (nine years ago)

ive always thought lebron the guy seems like a good guy

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:33 (nine years ago)

def

k3vin k., Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:48 (nine years ago)

kinda weird hes so widely loathed

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:49 (nine years ago)

ppl want their athletes to be kobe, are fd in the head

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:50 (nine years ago)

seems like it started with jordan, or maybe it just seems that way because of my age

k3vin k., Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:52 (nine years ago)

prob comes down to some deeply held cultural beliefs abt strength and heroes that are really just toxic and nonsensical

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:54 (nine years ago)

racism too

marcos, Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:57 (nine years ago)

theres always that

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 14:58 (nine years ago)

hated Lebron for going to Miami the way he did, though I guess that was selfish on my part

now I root for him to destroy everyone

frogbs, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:04 (nine years ago)

lebron loves memes

ciderpress, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:06 (nine years ago)

miami announcement was done poorly but he was young so i forgive him

marcos, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:07 (nine years ago)

yeah easy to hate Lebron for a while when he was all NWO, but i think he seems like a genuinely decent guy, if any one of us can ever know

Nhex, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:12 (nine years ago)

most of my extended family lives in Akron. my grandma lives like a half-mile from his house. she would go on and on about how much he was doing for the community, apparently he pours a lot of money into local schools and charities. when he was in Miami she said "I'm really sad he's gone but he's still a wonderful young man". I figured if my Granny, a lifelong Cavs fan, could forgive him, I could too.

frogbs, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:16 (nine years ago)

the decision was def majorly boneheaded but the distaste for him is so wide spread i think theres more there

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:29 (nine years ago)

some of it is his game isnt elegant like mike it doesnt really have that high level of charisma that most star perimeter players do

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:31 (nine years ago)

hes a lil more like shaq a bruiser who plays w insane skill thats easy to discount

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:32 (nine years ago)

idk I guess he flops some

frogbs, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:33 (nine years ago)

more than that I think he gets a lot of hatred from my generation b/c people are comparing him to Jordan and they don't like that

frogbs, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:34 (nine years ago)

he does flop and whine everyone does these days tho

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:34 (nine years ago)

definitely a generational thing "no one can be as good as jordan, the star of my youth"

marcos, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:37 (nine years ago)

also he takes himself pretty seriously, people don't always like that, part of why that championship parade moment when he was all loose and dropping f-bombs and joking about all the players was so special

marcos, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:38 (nine years ago)

i think its cause ppl sense his vulnerability and it makes them uncomfortable

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:39 (nine years ago)

I really think if the league keeps shrinking and more young guys model their games on curry/isiah etc lebron could be a tremendous micro ball center from age 35-40

gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:39 (nine years ago)

I would 100% root for a lebron-lebron jnr 1-5 pick and roll in 2023

gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:40 (nine years ago)

thing w playing an old at positions hes undersized for is its really tiring, one wld think hell end up seeing more time at the 4 at least tho

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:43 (nine years ago)

the reg season/playoffs bron contrast will get bigger too which will be fun

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:46 (nine years ago)

if the cavs win this year have a feeling a lot of ppl will just give in and love him

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:49 (nine years ago)

kinda weird hes so widely loathed

that televised "The Decision" thing was a monumental dick move on his part, but he seems to have learned from it. his being caught on camera mocking dirk during the finals against the mavs was also a dick move, but he seems to have learned from that, too. he's grown up slowly, but he does make progress.

A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:51 (nine years ago)

kobe had court dates for rape

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:53 (nine years ago)

the things held against bron relative to other athletes only make sense through the most paternalist petty prism

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:56 (nine years ago)

yeah like if the people he's up against are MJ and kobe i don't see how you can possibly get him on character

ciderpress, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:58 (nine years ago)

also he takes himself pretty seriously, people don't always like that, part of why that championship parade moment when he was all loose and dropping f-bombs and joking about all the players was so special

idk I think its kinda the opposite maybe? remember when everyone was mad @ him for dancing

Spottie, Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:58 (nine years ago)

kobe is a sociopath and therefore much worse than a monumental dick. and while we're at it. Jordan was a monumental dick, too. Nike and his other sponsors spent hundreds of millions disguising this fact.

A is for (Aimless), Thursday, 1 June 2017 15:59 (nine years ago)

shaq is a weirdly apt comparison actually imo

ciderpress, Thursday, 1 June 2017 16:00 (nine years ago)

i wld argue the money was spent glorifying it xp

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 16:01 (nine years ago)

yeah I've seen a hundred commercials and one movie starring Michael Jordan and he is not likeable in any of them

I think part of the resentment towards Lebron comes from the fact that he's bewn The Anointed One since high school, so when he couldn't win a title in 6 years it gave a lot of people a reason to yell "OVERRATED!!" at him.

Same here; my cousin worked for Lebron's foundation and has never had a single bad word to say about him, even through the Miami years.

Also this feels apropos: http://verysmartbrothas.com/lebron-james-may-or-may-not-be-a-better-basketball-player-than-michael-jordan-but-hes-a-better-man/

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Thursday, 1 June 2017 18:10 (nine years ago)

yeah

Nhex, Thursday, 1 June 2017 19:09 (nine years ago)

marcos, Thursday, 1 June 2017 20:38 (nine years ago)

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 June 2017 20:43 (nine years ago)
