Craziest thing about this to me is that in Dallas mahinmi looked like the kind of utterly fungible big man who would end up with one more little contract probably as a practice body for a contender with no money then vanish into Europe or w/e and now he's like an ideal b-level center
― gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Wednesday, July 6, 2016 3:10 AM
he was always a great backup for the pacers, and then lucked his way into a starting role and a career season just before the cap jump
― micah, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:07 (ten years ago)
things: -pau show abt a 3 per game, highest volume of 3s he's shot professionally. he made about 35% of em. not amazing, but he can spread the floor. so that's unique for them to have a 7 footer who can hit shots everywhere along with his other skill sets.-fwiw, he has posted his best DefRtgs the last two seasons in chicago maybe a byproduct of thibs or whatever. i haven't watched enough pau to get a feel for his ability to guard PnR.
xxp

pau is a legitimately awful defender
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:11 (ten years ago)
is he just stacking block stats bc he's tall but getting beat in other areas?
― 6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:12 (ten years ago)
ya something like that prob
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:13 (ten years ago)
he's just slow
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:13 (ten years ago)
ok. so he's...present day duncan!
― 6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:14 (ten years ago)
might be useful if pop cn find a way to let him hang around the rim but hes gonna get lit up in the pnr
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:15 (ten years ago)
pau's always been more of an offensive asset than a defensive one. that's his game. and he can pass.
― a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:15 (ten years ago)
prediction: pau will not play a second at the 4 where he'd need to switch more. sounds like he'd be a net liability against the warriors death star lineup and younger, more athletic teams
― 6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:15 (ten years ago)
it seemed like timmy could still protect the rim a bit?
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:16 (ten years ago)
oh yeah, he was an excellent defender, but his shot wasnt there in the playoffs

― micah, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)
i know it doesnt seem like it by keeping manu and signing pau, but the spurs are about to get a lot younger. theyre calling in a bunch of their draft picks who will be dleaguers for some time. i think davis bertans is going to get play immediately as a 3 pt marksman. kyle anderson and johnathon simmons are going to get more reps. a lot of roster spots need to be filled but the principals are still in place to be the #2 in the west.
― 6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)
like signing pau is a net lateral move imo. the alternative was sliding back due to duncan's retirement.
― 6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:27 (ten years ago)
hows it effect thier cap space for next summer
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:29 (ten years ago)

probably a little, but theyll have flexibility. assume pau opts in after this year and assume he makes $15 mil/year. theyll have ~$80 million on the books next year (LMA, Kawhi, Pau, TP, and danny green, in that order). team option on kyle anderson adds another $2m. if the cap is $108 they still can make a max offer or close to it. maybe they talk pau into opting out and re-signing for less per year, or maybe he just hates SA so much that he bolts, even more room. then u sell russ/CP3/whoever on a Big 3 of kawhi/lma/(x), TP coming off the bench, one of the premier wing defenders in danny, coach pop.
― 6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:36 (ten years ago)
this is early, tho, because they still need to re-sign BOBAN and fill a bunch of other roster spots. depending on the length of those contracts, thatll affect their 2017 cap space.

Justise Winslow explains why he walked out of the locker room wearing a "Really Really Good" hat after Tuesday's summer league win.
"It's just sort of a lifestyle," Winslow explained. "A kind of lifestyle motto -- Really, Really good. Everything from the way I look, the way I play. To the way I carry myself off the court. Everything is just really, really good. It's more of a lifestyle."

Rick Reilly ✔@ReillyRickAdding Kevin Durant to a Warriors team that already had Curry + Thompson is like giving Kate Upton a 3rd breast. Nothing appealing about it.

There were only six rooms available for nine people, so they shared. Clay Bennett, a multimillion-dollar owner, in a Holiday Inn Express, sharing a bed. Nothing was open, so they settled on a T.G.I. Friday's for a late dinner.

duncan was legitimately a defensive force for the first half of last year tho
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 23:35 (ten years ago)
honestly i'm not even sure diaw for pau is an upgrade, even leaving aside salaries

honestly far be it for me to question buford tho let's wait and see
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 23:37 (ten years ago)
Dirk 2/40 to stay.
Tired of taking less to lose early in the playoffs I see, smart man.
― moistest hoist (Spottie), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 00:01 (ten years ago)
pau is a much more productive player than diaw, even at this age.
i mean they should be worried about GS! i just dont think there is a magic move that brings them in legit contention against them. theyre going to have to hope that they have their own draymond somewhere in these draft and stash players and have a 60-win type season and hope that a big name FA sees the spurs as their best chance to win a title
― 6 god none the richer (m bison), Wednesday, 6 July 2016 00:08 (ten years ago)
yall remember how bad diaw was that he was geting cut by the bobcats? spurs are p good at getting players to do well in their system.
