i have something to say about the offseason THE 2016 NBA OFFSEASON

My sense is that wade really wants those extra millions, so he's not bluffing in that sense. If the nuggets are ready to pay him what he wants and Miami isn't willing, I predict he'll go to denver.

His questionable health is both the reason he wants the big payday now and in an unbreakable contract and the reason most teams won't be willing to pony up the big bucks for him. He's lucky his health situation is vague enough that someone is willing to gamble on him being able to deliver good value in return for the cash.

there's zero chance he goes to denver

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:23 (ten years ago)

despite the warriors ruining the league, pretty much every team has something interesting going on right now. i think basketball will survive this

ciderpress, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:24 (ten years ago)

no basketball is over

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:25 (ten years ago)

denver wld be an interesting spot for russ actually but it'll never happen

ciderpress, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:25 (ten years ago)

yeah this was already a really fascinating offseason and then the trump card got dropped

moistest hoist (Spottie), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:28 (ten years ago)

west is cooked isn't he

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:29 (ten years ago)

hes done

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:29 (ten years ago)

good locker room guy?

moistest hoist (Spottie), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:30 (ten years ago)

re: david west, he had a career year in terms of efficiency. he'll be good for them off the bench, but he won't get any playoff burn.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:30 (ten years ago)

keeps his locker very tidy

haha

moistest hoist (Spottie), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:33 (ten years ago)

the max should be raised to 50% of the cap imo

ciderpress, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:40 (ten years ago)

Adrian Wojnarowski‏@WojVerticalNBA
San Antonio has traded forward Boris Diaw to the Utah Jazz, league sources tell @TheVertical.

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:46 (ten years ago)

jazz are gonna be interesting this year

moistest hoist (Spottie), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:46 (ten years ago)

boris ;_;

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:50 (ten years ago)

A cosmopolitan dude like Boris is gonna love SLC

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:51 (ten years ago)

Diaw/Gobert sets should be called the Maginot Line.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:53 (ten years ago)

spurs dumping reasonably priced boris contract so they can pay old pau $20 million per year feels a little.... desperate

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:54 (ten years ago)

diaw was a DNP in game 6 on the playoffs, and he's 34. and it's $15m for pau.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:55 (ten years ago)

besides pau is a duncan replacement, not a diaw replacement

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:55 (ten years ago)

wonder what they wldve done if they had the durant info first

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:56 (ten years ago)

i mean i love bobo, one of my top 10 all time favorite players to watch, but the writing was on the wall in the playoffs.

xp

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:57 (ten years ago)

pau was still one of their targets, if they knew KD was GS bound, theyd still need a C.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:59 (ten years ago)

everyone has money to burn this summer, so I don't read taking pau over boris as a desperate move. spurs paid only ~4.5 million in luxury taxes last season, and had the second best record behind the dubs' 73-9. now they have more cap space, so they used it to advantage.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 20:59 (ten years ago)

pau's offensive stats overrate him, he's pretty redundant next to LMA & i don't think he's really any less ripe to being exposed by youth and athleticism in the playoffs but maybe there were really no better options out there for them

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:05 (ten years ago)

nu diaw has already been drafted

micah, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:06 (ten years ago)

Craziest thing about this to me is that in Dallas mahinmi looked like the kind of utterly fungible big man who would end up with one more little contract probably as a practice body for a contender with no money then vanish into Europe or w/e and now he's like an ideal b-level center

― gis for westbrook shark jump (agent hibachi), Wednesday, July 6, 2016 3:10 AM

he was always a great backup for the pacers, and then lucked his way into a starting role and a career season just before the cap jump

micah, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:07 (ten years ago)

things:
-pau show abt a 3 per game, highest volume of 3s he's shot professionally. he made about 35% of em. not amazing, but he can spread the floor. so that's unique for them to have a 7 footer who can hit shots everywhere along with his other skill sets.
-fwiw, he has posted his best DefRtgs the last two seasons in chicago maybe a byproduct of thibs or whatever. i haven't watched enough pau to get a feel for his ability to guard PnR.

xxp

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:10 (ten years ago)

pau is a legitimately awful defender

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:11 (ten years ago)

is he just stacking block stats bc he's tall but getting beat in other areas?

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:12 (ten years ago)

ya something like that prob

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:13 (ten years ago)

he's just slow

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:13 (ten years ago)

ok. so he's...present day duncan!

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:14 (ten years ago)

might be useful if pop cn find a way to let him hang around the rim but hes gonna get lit up in the pnr

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:15 (ten years ago)

pau's always been more of an offensive asset than a defensive one. that's his game. and he can pass.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:15 (ten years ago)

prediction: pau will not play a second at the 4 where he'd need to switch more. sounds like he'd be a net liability against the warriors death star lineup and younger, more athletic teams

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:15 (ten years ago)

it seemed like timmy could still protect the rim a bit?

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:16 (ten years ago)

oh yeah, he was an excellent defender, but his shot wasnt there in the playoffs

hah i bet

micah, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)

i know it doesnt seem like it by keeping manu and signing pau, but the spurs are about to get a lot younger. theyre calling in a bunch of their draft picks who will be dleaguers for some time. i think davis bertans is going to get play immediately as a 3 pt marksman. kyle anderson and johnathon simmons are going to get more reps. a lot of roster spots need to be filled but the principals are still in place to be the #2 in the west.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)

like signing pau is a net lateral move imo. the alternative was sliding back due to duncan's retirement.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:27 (ten years ago)

hows it effect thier cap space for next summer

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:29 (ten years ago)

if im not mistaken pau got an opt out

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:31 (ten years ago)

ouch

moistest hoist (Spottie), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 21:35 (ten years ago)

probably a little, but theyll have flexibility. assume pau opts in after this year and assume he makes $15 mil/year. theyll have ~$80 million on the books next year (LMA, Kawhi, Pau, TP, and danny green, in that order). team option on kyle anderson adds another $2m. if the cap is $108 they still can make a max offer or close to it. maybe they talk pau into opting out and re-signing for less per year, or maybe he just hates SA so much that he bolts, even more room. then u sell russ/CP3/whoever on a Big 3 of kawhi/lma/(x), TP coming off the bench, one of the premier wing defenders in danny, coach pop.
