messy bitches love drama

Simmons in 2010:

Which current NBA franchise seems like the safest bet to become a dynastender and possibly even a dynasty? Here’s a hint: It’s not Oklahoma City. Miami already has two Finals appearances and one title, as well as the best basketball player in 20 years. They could easily rip off four or five straight titles … you know, assuming LeBron keeps himself motivated and actually stays in Miami. (I have my doubts.) There’s a remote and semi-alarming possibility that LeBron could cruise to two more Miami titles, switch teams in 2014 (when his contract ends), rip off two or three more titles in New York/Cleveland/Los Angeles/London/wherever and become the NBA’s first player-centric dynasty.

(So if you’re scoring at home, we’d have Russell’s Celtics, Jordan’s Bulls, Magic’s Lakers and LeBron’s LeBrons. Doesn’t that sound horrifying? Let’s hope he doesn’t read this column and decide it’s a good idea.)

Horseshoe!

Couldn't bear to watch the 2nd half so I went to bed and turned the radio on.

Cavs in 7.

brownie, Monday, 20 June 2016 11:50 (nine years ago)

I watched the whole game at Melt in Cle Hts and it was just unbelievable. Everyone in the place was standing for the last five minutes of the game, clutching our heads in disbelief at WHATEVER outcome was about to happen. When Bron missed that first foul shot the place was full of groans, but when he hit the second . . . well, we were still like, "GSW can't score five points in six seconds. Can they? They can't, right? OH FUCK ME IT'S THE GHOST OF EDGAR RENTERIA." Six seconds later it was screams and horns honking outside and fireworks.

as a gsw bandwagoner this game hit me right in the feels. oof

, Monday, 20 June 2016 13:11 (nine years ago)

Steph missing so badly on so many open threes was ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

, Monday, 20 June 2016 13:16 (nine years ago)

Man the last 5 minutes of that game were unbelievably intense - you could sense that both teams were really tensed up and jittery, crazy that Kyrie's off balance 3 was the one to go in

GSW can't score five points in six seconds. Can they?

hah I was thinking the same, absolutely they could. I thought for sure they were gonna inbound, crank a 3, foul while down 1, leaving some poor soul to take free throws with the Finals and LeBron's legacy on the line. Felt far from over at that point. Guess God doesn't hate Cleveland anymore.

frogbs, Monday, 20 June 2016 13:17 (nine years ago)

Golden State didn't score a point in the last 4 and a half minutes of the game? wtf

brownie, Monday, 20 June 2016 13:36 (nine years ago)

warriors didn't score for the last like 5 minutes of the game

ciderpress, Monday, 20 June 2016 13:36 (nine years ago)

they asked steph about this in the press conference and he basically said he could have blown by him but he was hunting out a 3 and couldn't get a clean look, which makes sense

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2016 14:29 (nine years ago)

did steph say why he missed so badly on all those other threes

, Monday, 20 June 2016 14:30 (nine years ago)

he did not altho i had momentarily forgotten that he tied the game with like a 24 footer at one point late in the fourth

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2016 14:34 (nine years ago)

love looks so awkward/tentative even on good defensive plays like that one

ciderpress, Monday, 20 June 2016 14:35 (nine years ago)

kyrie stats this series are pretty impressive, he really came through

marcos, Monday, 20 June 2016 15:10 (nine years ago)

Been piecing together the video of the 2nd half after listening to the radio last night and Kyrie really hit some tough shots. That putback from his own miss was smooth.

brownie, Monday, 20 June 2016 15:12 (nine years ago)

*high fives brownie* btw

"Good defense" has never stopped Curry from hitting a three in the past, so as much as Love deserves some credit that can't be the only explanation

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Monday, 20 June 2016 15:21 (nine years ago)

yeah curry stopped hitting those difficult off-the-dribble & step-back 3s at a good rate, i feel like this started towards the end of the season, not even with the injury

ciderpress, Monday, 20 June 2016 15:25 (nine years ago)

I couldn't watch the game out of unexpected jittery superstition; I didn't even check the score until the 4th quarter

When the ESPN alert rolled onto my phone, I felt relieved jubilation followed by intense shame that I had been too scared to actually watch the game, especially considering that I think I watched a total of 2 games during the regular season.

OTOH fuck yeah Cleveland, I didn't jinx you

volumetric god rays (DJP), Monday, 20 June 2016 15:32 (nine years ago)

Tbf, it was a pretty stressful game and I am about as fairweather a fan as can be

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Monday, 20 June 2016 15:37 (nine years ago)

biggest lead was 7 I think? and even that disappeared in like a minute.

frogbs, Monday, 20 June 2016 15:40 (nine years ago)

ciderpress, Monday, 20 June 2016 15:53 (nine years ago)

woke up at 430 am and couldnt go back to bed, nightmares about those final ezili minutes wouldnt leave my head

moistest hoist (Spottie), Monday, 20 June 2016 15:55 (nine years ago)

it didnt have too many spectacular plays or crazy individual performances (bron had a trip dub but shot poorly) it was more of a grind it out type scenario but that worked w the stress of the situation

lag∞n, Monday, 20 June 2016 15:56 (nine years ago)

yeah pretty much a coin flip over the last 5 minutes

moistest hoist (Spottie), Monday, 20 June 2016 16:00 (nine years ago)

lag∞n, Monday, 20 June 2016 16:29 (nine years ago)

Scottie as someone whose heart was broken in 2013 by LeBron James, I think you're going to spend the exact same amount of time thinking about hoops bc remember next year you will have ml the same team that won 140 games the last two seasons

6 god none the richer (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2016 16:31 (nine years ago)

top 6 is staying (ranking SL above HB now) and everyone else who knows

moistest hoist (Spottie), Monday, 20 June 2016 16:37 (nine years ago)

player movement gonna be especially crucial this year cause of all the money its totally in play for a contender to add another allstar, or lose one
